Well not exactly a rat's ass but I have to admit I am highly amused. Historically the movie industry has fallen all over itself praising its own sensitivity to minorities, especially blacks, and decrying the racism forever present in flyover country.

I am reminded of something Rush pointed out when Halle Barry won her best actress Oscar in 2002. Recall Barry's acceptance speech, full of pathos and self-righteous claims of racism which had prevented a black woman for ever achieving such an honor before? Rush asked a simple question: have any of his listeners ever voted in an Oscar contest? No, the only people who get to vote in the Oscar races are in the very movie industry which sees itself as pure, colorblind, morally superior. If there was any racism involved, Ms Barry, it was among your professional brethren.

So, too, with this current brouhaha. The racism present in the current award nominations, if there is any, isn't my problem nor yours. We had no say in the matter, only the Hollywood elitists did. Then, too, making an issue of the nominee's color also derives from racism and that is even clearer.

So pass the popcorn, sit back and enjoy the accusations, the whining, the groveling sure to come. Watching that will be more fun than the Oscar ceremony itself.
