ZitatClint Eastwood briefly commented on the Oscars diversity controversy on Friday, seemingly suggesting it’s much ado about nothing.
As Gossip Cop has reported, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has been under fire in the wake of last week’s Academy Awards nominations announcement, in which only white actors received nods for the second year in a row. The lack of black nominees has led Will and Jada Pinkett Smith to call for a boycott, while others have also expressed outrage. The Academy responded on Friday afternoon by announcing new measures geared toward increasing diversity in their ranks.
Eastwood was asked about the situation by a paparazzo outside a restaurant on Friday night, and at first he claimed, “I don’t know anything about it.” He added, however, “All I know is there’s thousands of people in the Academy, and the majority of them haven’t won Oscars. A lot of people are crying, I guess.”
Eastwood seems to be suggesting that people shouldn’t be upset about being snubbed, since only a very small amount of people win anyway
Well, Clint does seem to be suggesting that at least one group is upset.
Clint is also in the news for yet another matter. Despite claims from Spike TV that its Guy's Choice awards show would be "unfiltered, [and] unpredictable", they censored an Eastwood joke.
ZitatThe website Hollywood Life reported that Eastwood made the crack when introducing Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson for an award during the program shot at Sony Pictures Studio in Culver City, CA. Eastwood, 85, compared the San Andreas star to former athletes who have become actors, like "Jim Brown and Caitlyn Somebody..."
Isn't that terrible? Is it any wonder Spike TV decided you shouldn't have to hear that? Spike is just so manly.
