Relations between Da Mayor and NYPD not so warm and friendly.
"Not over their dead bodies. Cops are warning Mayor de Blasio and Council Speaker Melissa Mark-Viverito to stay away from their funerals should they be killed in the line of duty.
The Patrolmen’s Benevolent Association distributed a flier to members, blaring: “DON’T LET THEM INSULT YOUR SACRIFICE!” Cops were encouraged to sign and submit the “Don’t Insult My Sacrifice” waiver to ban the cop-bashing pols from their funerals.
“I, as a New York City police officer, request that Mayor Bill de Blasio and City Council Speaker Melissa Mark-Viverito refrain from attending my funeral services in the event that I am killed in the line of duty,” the waiver states.
“Due to Mayor de Blasio and Speaker Mark-Viverito’s consistent refusal to show police officers the support and respect they deserve, I believe that their attendance at the funeral of a fallen New York City police officer is an insult to that officer’s memory and sacrifice.”
Officers can download the form on the PBA’s Web site and drop off a signed copy to their PBA delegates."
Da Mayor meanwhile stated: "This is deeply disappointing,” the mayor and the council speaker said in a joint statement.
“Incendiary rhetoric like this serves only to divide the city, and New Yorkers reject these tactics."
Tone deaf De Blasio doesn't seem to realize it is his own stupidity and lack of support for the NYPD which has led to this.
"Sources say the revolt was sparked by the mayor’s lack of support for the NYPD following the grand jury’s decision not to indict the officer involved in the death of Staten Islander Eric Garner.
De Blasio added fuel to that fire in a press conference about the grand-jury vote where he said he had warned his 17-year-old, mixed-race son, Dante, to be careful around police officers.
“We’ve had to literally train him, as families have all over this city for decades, in how to take special care in any encounter he has with the police officers who are there to protect him,” the mayor said.
PBA President Patrick Lynch reacted to that by accusing the mayor of throwing cops “under the bus.”
"FDNY Drops Physical Fitness Test Requirement to Boost Female Hire Rate"
"In a somewhat controversial move, the New York City Fire Department (FDNY) has dropped the physical test requirement for probationary firefighters. The move was done in part to increase the number of female members in FDNY.
From the New York Post:
The Fire Department has stopped requiring probationary firefighters to pass a job-related physical-skills test before getting hired — a move that critics derided as a lowering of standards.
The move by first-year Fire Commissioner Daniel Nigro, which allows probies to fail components of the Functional Skills Training test but still graduate from the Fire Academy, comes amid criticism of the department’s low hiring rate of women.
Out of FNDY's 10,500 firefighters, just 44 are women. Only 57 percent of females pass the physical test, compared to 95 percent of males. The physical test involves, among other things, moving a tire six to eight feet and climbing up a ladder wearing an oxygen tank with a small amount of oxygen."
ZitatNYers seemed determined to return their city to the garbage pit it was before Giuliani. I wish them the best.
The ones that reside on the upper East side are, anyway.
They might say: 'The city is so much more "exciting" nowadays - and it makes for much better cocktail party conversations as we summer in the Hamptons."

I'm no fan of many of Guiliani's politics, but credit where credit it due.
I was working in Jersey City when Guiliani became famous for cleaning up NYC.
There were several who commuted in from NYC and I asked them if this was all hype.
They all answered that Guiliani cleaned up and made the city safe for ALL New Yorkers. As average working people they went from avoiding going out after dark and carrying 'muggers money' (remember that) to being able to sit on their stoops. socialize with neighbors, go to a movie or eat out safely.
Those of us in NJ went from avoiding the city like the plague to being able to drive in once in a while and enjoy it without being assaulted at every stop by 'windshield cleaners'. The street no longer were being used by the homeless as bedrooms and bathrooms.
Rudy didn't just clean the human debris off the streets, he cleaned the physical garbage too. I remember wandering around sections of the city back in the 80's and it was almost like walking through the contents of Chinese restaurant dumpster it was so bad. Dinkins was easily the worst mayor that city ever had. Probably worse than Comrade DeBlowsio.
Giuliani Blames ‘Liberal Guilty Whites,’ Teachers for Police Relations
Former Mayor Rudolph Giuliani doubled-down on comments he made last week about the need to address the phenomenon of black-on-black crime, blaming “liberal guilty whites” like Mayor Bill de Blasio and teachers unions for exacerbating the problem.
Speaking on WABC’s Geraldo Rivera radio program, Mr. Giuliani reiterated his criticism of Mr. de Blasio and like-minded progressive politicians for what he claimed was an over-focus on police abuse and killing of blacks, and what he argued was insufficient attention to the high crime rates in African-American neighborhoods. He claimed the refusal to address the latter problem is making it worse.
“The only reason there are more [police] encounters with blacks is because there’s considerably more crimes against blacks. Somebody was on television this weekend, asking how come there are so many blacks in prison. Well, how about because they commit 70 percent of the murders in New York City. That’s not a racist comment, Geraldo. That’s a fact. I think it’s racist not to acknowledge that,” he said. “The only way you restore confidence between these two communities is to get them to tell the truth about each other.”
The former mayor argued that Mr. de Blasio and his ally Rev. Al Sharpton would be better off spending time and effort combating crime in black communities and the social problems that he claimed give rise to it.
“Liberal guilty whites have to stop refusing to say the bigger part of the problem here is black crime and not police overreaction. A smaller part of the problem is police overreaction. It’s driven by the incredibly large rates of crime in the black community,” Mr. Giuliani said. “The energy that Sharpton and everybody else is spending protesting against police would save a lot more black lives if it would start talking about black education, if it started talking about the family situation in the black neighborhoods.”
He then turned his fire on teachers unions, claiming they are to blame for the problem of poor schools in black neighborhoods.
“Maybe all these left-wing politicians that want to blame police, maybe there’s some blame here that has to go to the teachers union, for refusing to have, for refusing to have schools where teachers are paid for performance, for fighting charter schools, for fighting vouchers, so we can drastically and dramatically improve the education situation. Maybe they should be talking about and holding rallies about the problem of black fathers taking care of the children they fathered,” he said.
Nonetheless, he conceded that police need retraining in courtesy, and that the continued troubles blacks face are a result of historic injustice.
“All of this I don’t see as racial. This is all a product of the terrible things that happened what someone called I think was the biggest sin in American history, was slavery,” Mr. Giuliani said.
Similar comments from Mr. Giuliani in the last few weeks have drawn sharp criticism.

Ya beat me to this one, Algernonpj: "Give DeBloweio time; it'll be a real close race." Only thing I dispute about that is De Blasio, due to his rigid ideology, will be worse, much worse.
