Mark Levin ripped Republicans a new one tonight as he opened his show tonight, saying that he is one inch away from leaving the Republican Party.
He starts in hard, asking Republicans if they think this is a joke, if they think they can just lie to Republicans and conservatives with impunity about defunding Obamacare and fighting Obama’s illegal amnesty.
He points out that Republicans go on and on about an imperial president and his illegal amnesty and they can’t even vote on a point of order challenging Obama.
Levin says the Constitution is in tatters and that the Republican Party doesn’t even realize they’ve ceded their power to Obama.
And there’s so much more.

Hmmmm, just "one inch" to go; I suspect that it won't take the full next two years for him to travel that last inch....

Pretty much the way I feel as well. I'l support individual R's and I prefer R's over D's,
but I have no love for the party. They've disappointed us too many times!

Of all the national talk show hosts out there, Levin is probably the most solid. That said, however, I'm surprised he's still IN the GOP.
But even Levin has argued (along with all the other hosts) that supporting 3rd parties was not wise because all it does is elect democrats. His point - i believe - was that we needed the infrastructure and apparatus of the republican party (already in place). With that apparatus and infrastructure, what we needed was to take it over and replace the establishment with constitutionalists and conservatives.
Well - it's been how many election cycles since Reagan? How much closer are we to taking over the GOP? No closer, I'd say.
It will be interesting to see where Levin goes from here. Will he support a 3rd party? I doubt it. So what he WILL do is anyone's guess.
As most everyone knows Levin has written a book ("The Liberty Amendments") proposing a solution. Not that it's not valid and well thought out, but I have my problems with it. I've stated these before, so I won't go into them here - other than to say I don't think we have that much time left.

It has been a minor point of frustration with me as a listener of Mark since he first had his 1 or 2 hour show that he didn't get paid for (a radio tryout of sorts) on Sunday afternoons many years ago, that he still self identifies as part of the gop. He sort of backgrounded tonight: ran for a school board post at age 19 as a "Republican," worked both Reagan primary campaigns, served 8 years in Reagan administration, etc. In some ways, it is in his blood.
I agree with both of your points above: Levin feels/felt the gop party infrastructure was needed, and it has been too long and we are actually falling further away from being able to use that infrastructure for anything good. But I am pretty sure that it won't take all 24 months of the 114th Congress to finally disabuse him of these beliefs.
What I am thinking that his next step may be close to where I am: time to remove the gop establishment in both the General as well as Primary elections. (You can never win a battle with an enemy outside of your gates with traitors still in your camp.) If I lived in KY I would have voted for Allison Grimes over turtle -- much better to deal with a junior Dem senator from KY that would have had no power to do anything, rather than have mitch as Majority Leader. Same thing in MS, Travis Childers was far more deserving of a Conservative vote/support than Thad "Comatose" Cochran (seeing how the gopE slimed Chris McDaniel in that primary was pretty much the last straw for me). (Forget about defeating many of these gopE types in Primaries, especially since they've increased their PAC funding by a thousand fold in the cromnibus.) I know everyone was clamoring to "fire Harry Reid" but I would rather lose some short term battles for the longer term gains of purging the gop. So in my mind, the only way to salvage the gop in the long run, is to be willing to sacrifice short term gains by purging the mcconnells and boehners from the party, root and branch; if that means supporting a Dem to do it, so be it.
But as you say very clearly: I doubt that there is much time remaining for any kind of long term battles at this point; we should have started all of this decades ago, shame on me & you!!
Side note: Maybe Mark is going to stop with that "our favorite cable channel" crap, I just heard him give a shoutout to Hannity and he refrained from that phrase and basically said that Hannity stands ALONE there........
