Is it just me or does anyone else think this story may be totally fabricated? This bird has been missing for days and there isn't even a hint that this thing ever existed. I find that impossible in this day and age when there are spies in the sky all over the place. Something is not right in any of this.
ZitatOne of the two men who used stolen passports to board the missing Malaysia Airlines jet has been identified according to the nation’s inspector general of police. Authorities are not releasing details of his nationality but confirmed he is neither Malaysian nor from Xinjiang, China (the home of the Uighur separatists who have come under suspicion following Taiwanese authorities tip last week warning that terrorists were targeting Beijing’s international airport).
The Financial Times has exclusively reported that the Thai travel agency that booked the tickets for the men had been asked to arrange the travel by an Iranian middleman.
The two were travelling from Kuala Lumpur with an Italian and an Austrian passport that had belonging to Luigi Maraldi and Christian Kozel. The passports were included in the stolen list of the Interpol’s database but managed to pass immigration control.
The one-way tickets with those names were issued from a travel agency in Pattaya, eastern Thailand.
More… The two men with stolen passports were both booked to travel to Amsterdam on March 8.

It's hard to say. There are all kinds of stories out. Looking at the map here I can see your point that something odd is going on. The projected flight path is not over open ocean. There are lots of pics and info about the search and technology being used in the following link at DailyMail. In theory a bomb at high altitude would create a situation of very wide dispersal of the wreckage. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-...er-boarded.html
Zitat While aviation specialists and four decades of case files suggest the Malaysian Airline System Bhd. (MAS) plane will be found, investigators are in the unique position of being unaware of a large jet’s whereabouts more than 60 hours after it disappeared. http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2014-03-10...over-water.html
However, I'm pretty certain whatever we are eventually told, it all will be used to justify an expansion of the state intrusion and tracking our every movement.
My wife raised an interesting point that is above my pay grade, but perhaps someone more familiar with aviation issues can answer it for her and me.
Don't all planes of this type have something like a transponder which sends out a continual signal as to the plane's location? Maybe a component of the "black box"? If that is the case then why hasn't the signal been located? Or is her (and mine) assumption wrong (but one of you other guys will have to tell her; I don't have the nerve)?

It seems very unbelievable that not one satellite has captured this plane's complete journey and its current whereabouts.
They can read license plates from the sky but no help here? Seems like the non-effort is a smokescreen to cover that they really know what happened but they don't want anyone to know their capabilities. Therefore....they are remaining "silent".

I'm no aviation expert but I believe you are correct. It seems that in parts of the world there are dead zones or no coverage areas where the signal is not received. More here Per fox news:
ZitatThat data comes from the ADS-B transponder on the plane -- the so called black box -- which transmits a plane’s location twice per second. Roughly 60 percent of all passenger aircraft are equipped with transponders that beam out such data, the company said. http://www.foxnews.com/tech/2014/03/10/r...ind-only-holes/
In another article it is claimed the black box can be turned off or destroyed in a sudden voilent catastrophe: http://www.cnbc.com/id/101481437
I personally also wonder if they can be hacked.
According to the DailyMail an incredible array of technology is being employed in the search:
ZitatUnderlining the lack of hard information about the plane's fate, a U.S. Navy P-3 aircraft capable of covering 1,500 sq miles every hour was sweeping the northern part of the Strait of Malacca, on the other side of the Malaysian peninsula from where the last contact with MH370 was made.
Our aircraft are able to clearly detect small debris in the water, but so far it has all been trash or wood,' said U.S. 7th Fleet spokesman Commander William Marks in an emailed statement. ..................................
A total of 34 aircraft and 40 ships from 10 nations are involved in the search .................................. The Seahawks have been used for night searches, using a forward-looking infra-red camera ..................................
The United States extensively reviewed imagery taken by American spy satellites for evidence of a mid-air explosion, but saw none, a U.S. government source said. The source described U.S. satellite coverage of the region as thorough.
