ZitatWisconsin Governor Scott Walker endorsed Ted Cruz on Charlie Sykes' radio show early Tuesday morning. The endorsement came as little surprise, as Walker had told Sykes that his endorsement would come "after Easter, when it would have the maximum impact." Nevertheless, Walker's effusive praise of Cruz as a true conservative, and his pledge to campaign with the Texas senator is remarkable. The Wisconsin Republican primary is next Tuesday, April 5.
While he announced his endorsement on Newsradio 620 WTMJ, Walker released a statement supporting Cruz:
"After eight years of the failed Obama-Clinton Administration, Americans are looking for real leadership and a new direction. Ted Cruz is a principled constitutional conservative who understands that power belongs to the states – and to the people – and not bureaucrats in Washington.
Just like we did in Wisconsin, Ted Cruz is not afraid to challenge the status quo and to stand up against big government special interests. He is the best-positioned candidate to both win the Republican nomination and defeat Hillary Clinton. That's why I endorse Ted Cruz for President of the United States."
Hmmm ... Would that be the Scott Walker who a few days earlier stated:
Scott Walker: Nominee at Brokered Convention Will Be Someone ‘Not Currently Running’ by Patrick Howley24 Mar 2016
Wisconsin governor Scott Walker said Thursday that in the event of a contested convention, the Republican nominee will likely be someone who is “not currently running.”
“I think if it’s an open convention, it’s very likely it would be someone who’s not currently running,” Walker said.
“I mean, who knows. The one thing I qualify — it’s like the qualifications you see on those ads you see for car dealerships. I think any of us who comment on this election have to qualify that almost every prediction’s been off, so it’s hard to predict anything,” Walker added.
Walker’s own run for the presidency went down in flames before the Iowa caucus even happened, due in large part to Walker hiring a D.C.-based team that didn’t know how to manage a conservative Midwesterner.
Convention head Rep. Paul Ryan (R-WI) has not definitively ruled out the possibility that he could get the nomination in Cleveland. John Boehner said that he would support Ryan on a second ballot.
Is the eGOP pushing toward a brokered convention ? If so what does this endorsement really indicate ? Is it part of the attempt to get a brokered convention or does Walker truly endorse Cruz as the best candidate ?
