Cognitive Dissonance: The term used to describe the feeling of discomfort that results from holding two conflicting beliefs.

So, it's obviously true that they definitely hold contradictory beliefs.

The real question is, do they see the contradiction and is it causing them stress?

I'd say it isn't causing them stress, some embarrassment perhaps.

In my experience with progressives they are very good at compartmentalizing conflicting beliefs.

What stress they feel seems to outwardly directed in the form of negative emotions and Alinsky type tactics directed toward any one or thing that points out the contradictions.
