Ted Cruz responded to a bigoted and tasteless cartoon about his two young daughters published by the Washington Post this week, and his response is perfect.
The Republican senator and presidential candidate went on the offense after one of WaPo’s editorial cartoonists, Ann Telnaes, drew Cruz as a maniacal-looking organ grinder forcing his young daughters, caricatured as monkeys, to dance as a part of his campaign efforts.
Cruz’s alternate cartoon idea depicts WaPo and the New York Times as Hillary Clinton’s personal lapdogs.
Ouch. Someone send some ice and ointment to WaPo’s new building, because they’re going to need it for that sick burn.
The illustration Cruz tweeted closely resembles the WaPo cartoon published and then retracted on Tuesday, which depicted Cruz’s daughters as dancing monkeys leashed to their Santa-suit wearing father.
Nobody knows how this election cycle is going to play out - but I'll admit so far that it's kept my interest.
One of the things that attract people to the so-called "outsiders" (Trump, Cruz, Carson) is their refusal to take crap from the EstablishMedia (the way the gop-e has always done in the past)
Years ago (must have been the 2000 election cycle) I remember the buffoon Algore talking about his "lockbox" during one of the debates. It was something to do with Social Security - and the premise was - as always - that the eeeeeeeeeeeeevil republicans were going to take all your goodies away. It was up to the democrats and - of course - Gore, to save them.
I was literally jumping out of my chair at the time - yelling at the TV (and the candidate Bush) to PLEASE respond in a way that would FINALLY put this - the idea that all republicans wanted to do was take away goodies, have a war on women, kill puppies, kitties, old people, the sick, infirm, yada yada yada - to rest.
Of course Bush did no such thing. Why I asked - will not the republicans fight back and refuse to let themselves be defined by the democrats and their PR extension, the media?
Over the years - in watching how politics has played out especially in the last 15 or so years - I've come to the conclusion that the gop-e branch of the ruling party really doesn't care about winning elections. Sounds foolish on the surface, I know.
But apparently the conclusion has been reached that the democrat (branch) is to be the party of government; and the republican (branch) is to get whatever is left over. Apparently it is important to have the ILLUSION of elections and the ILLUSION that there is a choice, but in REALITY there is none.
So on paper, the republicans have a majority in the House and the Senate - and Ryan and McConnell are (on paper) the respective leaders. But in reality, Reid is still running the Senate and Pelosi is still running the House.
And the Boy Emperor is still the dictator - never, ever to be denied what he wants.
Well - "the outsiders" have challenged all that.
And that is why they are so popular.
