ZitatA Southern Oregon man is accused of arson in connection with a fire that has caused major damage to several towns in Jackson County.
Michael Jarrod Bakkela, 41, has arrested on two counts of arson, 15 counts of criminal mischief and 14 counts of reckless endangerment.
The fire Bakkela set is considered to be one of two origins of the Almeda fire, said Oregon State Fire Marshal’s office spokesman Rich Tyler. The two fires quickly merged, Tyler said.

ZitatSheriff: Man started fires outside Glide [OR], told firefighters he would start more
DE, Ore. - A man armed with a machete confronted crews responding to the scene of a fire outside Glide late Tuesday.
"The male subject wanted the firefighters to give him a ride into Glide," the Douglas County Sheriff's Office said, "and told them if they didn't he would set additional fires."
Firefighters from the Douglas Forest Protective Association arrived on scene near McComas Creek northeast of Glide around 11 p.m. Tuesday "and located multiple fires burning in a previously logged unit," the agency said.
"While attempting to pinpoint the location and size of each fire, firefighters made contact with a suspect in the area who was believed to be related to the start of the fires," DFPA said in a statement. "Deputies from the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office were requested to respond to the incident."
Deputies arrived at the scene and took 39-year-old Jedediah Ezekiel Fulton of Sutherlin into custody.
Fulton "admitted to setting multiple fires in the area," the sheriff's office said. "He told deputies he had been in the forest for approximately 3 hours and was attempting to get help."
