The House barely passed a rule today to allow the cromnibus bill to come to the floor. The final vote was 214-212 in favor of rule. An actual vote on the bill is expected after 2pm according to Chad Pergram from Fox News.
Quote: Cyber Liberty wrote in post #2I thought they needed 2/3 to suspend the rule?
Time for voting had run out minutes before, and briefly the nays—those against the rule—had the majority. At least one Republican had switched a vote from being against the rule to for it, at which time the presiding officer used procedural chicanery to quickly call the vote passed.
Republican Reps. Justin Amash (R-MI), Michele Bachmann (R-MN), Dave Brat (R-VA), Mo Brooks (R-AL), Paul Broun (R-GA), Louie Gohmert (R-TX), Paul Gosar (R-AZ), Tim Huelskamp (R-KS), Walter Jones (R-NC), Jim Jordan (R-OH), Steve King (R-IA), Raul Labrador (R-ID), Tom Massie (R-KY), Bill Posey (R-FL), Matt Salmon (R-AZ) and Steve Stockman (R-TX) held the line and voted no. Rep. Kerry Bentivolio (R-MI) switched his vote from nay to yay at the last minute.
If the numbers that are being reported—50 to 60, maybe more—of Republicans hold on against the final passage of the bill later in the day, and all the Democrats who opposed the rule oppose the bill, the bill would fail on final passage. It remains to be seen what will happen.
President Obama lent his support to the $1.1 trillion CRomnibus just minutes after it nearly failed on a procedural vote on the House floor. His support for the bill might convince some of the Democrats who voted against the rule to reverse course and help Republicans push the bill over the top.
The original vote was 213-213, but, as Rev's link notes: "Freshman Rep Kerry Bentivolio (R-MI) who lost primary was final R to flip from nay to yea on #CRomnibus rule. Made it 214-212.". thus making the final vote possible. Bentivolio, according to the public record, "signed the Contract From America " which stipulates, "Impose a statutory cap limiting the annual growth in total federal spending to the sum of the inflation rate plus the percentage of population growth."
Bentivolio has been replaced by Republican Dave Trott who at least claims (as if it means anything): "With Washington borrowing nearly 40 cents of every dollar it spends, Dave is a committed to reining in out-of-control federal spending. Dave isn’t another politician who just talks the talk; he cut his teeth in the private sector, he walks the walk. With more than 30 years of experience in balancing budgets and growing businesses, Dave knows that Washington has a spending problem, not a revenue problem."
Updated 2:30 p.m. | Unsure whether they have the votes to pass a trillion-dollar federal spending package, House GOP leaders on Thursday afternoon delayed a final vote on the “cromnibus.”
They did so with mere hours to go until the government is set to run out of funding, and just before the House was scheduled to vote.
I heard on the radio that 171 pages were added to the monstrosity overnight..... can't imagine what crap the snuck in there..... how can any of them vote for this with good conscience?? (Yeah, I know, idiotic question!!)

WHAT does that say about Boehner's Bill, if he has Obama's support ??
I am hoping Boehner can't even get Democrat votes and he gets VOTED OUT in shame when the new Congress comes to town !!

Here's an excerpt from an American Thinker article from this morning:
Flush from an unprecedented nationwide GOP victory in this November’s elections, House and Senate GOP leadership determined that their essential first course of action should be to snatch defeat from its jaws. They have brought forth a spending bill for 2015 that gives President Obama almost everything he wants, while disenfranchising the very voters who delivered the GOP victory.
ZitatRep. Kerry Bentivolio (R-MI) switched his vote from nay to yay at the last minute.
Interestingly enough, $550 million in funding has just been approved for the Honorable Kerry Bentivolio Memorial Crosswalk, Home for Wayward Mothers and Sperm Bank.
BTW, this shitbag RINO Bendoverlio got his ass handed to him in the Primaries and then was so bitter about it he ran some half assed write in campaign a la Merkowski. He lost his ass there too. Looks like Boner had some pay off money for him.
