Rand Paul Says Congressional Votes Are Rigged: They’re Counting The Votes In Advance [VIDEO] Nick Givas Media And Politics Reporter 9:29 AM 04/03/2018
Republican Sen. Rand Paul of Kentucky claimed Tuesday on “Fox & Friends” that Congress will only call for votes if they already know the outcome in advance.
Paul was discussing immigration reform and said Congressional leaders had promised him an “open debate,” but did everything they could to stifle his proposed amendments.
“This is the sad thing about the Senate and Congress,” Paul said. “They will not vote on anything that they don’t count votes in advance and know it will be defeated. So they knew from the beginning nothing would happen. They devised the votes and would only allow votes that will actually fail. It was not an open debate.”
“They had four pre-planned votes where they already knew the outcome and they knew all four would lose,” Paul said.
Paul believes federal law should be changed to better handle illegal immigrants and streamline the process for sending them back to Mexico.
“The 1100 people that are marching up through Mexico should be stopped at the border and they should be sent back,” Paul said. “We should not allow people to come into our country and break the laws.”
“We should not allow people, particularly 1100 of them marching up to basically thumb their nose, and say we don’t care what your laws are, we’re coming. They should be stopped at the border and sent home,” he concluded. “If it requires a change of law we should do it. But I think there is some leeway within the executive branch that they may be able to do it if they want to.”
