With so much media focus on Ebola and the rapid advancement of the Islamic State the problems at the US border have kind of taken a back seat, which is too bad. The Washington Times reported that immigrant families housed at a New Mexico facility are still plagued with communicable diseases. Part of the problem is the illegal immigrants aren’t used to receiving and following up with health care, or using the bathroom.
“Family unit illnesses and unfamiliarity with bathroom facilities continued to result in unsanitary conditions,” Inspector General John Roth wrote in a memo to Homeland Security Secretary Jeh Johnson.
Mr. Roth said the illnesses — which put the facility in Artesia, New Mexico, on lockdown earlier this year, preventing any immigrants from being transferred in or out — have proved to be a continuing problem. …
Previous reports had detailed some of the difficulties of handling the surge, including the communicable diseases some brought, such as scabies, lice or chickenpox.
And investigators found “unfamiliarity” with bathrooms resulted in unsanitary conditions, including “exposure to human waste.” (Read More)
Who knows what other diseases they have, like the Enterovirus that’s killing kids, leaving others paralyzed, and landing many more in hospitals.
