Gretchen Carlson To Students Protesting Pro-American Curriculum: 'Don't Like It Here? Get Out'
'Last time I checked, we were still living in the United States of America'

Gretchen Carlson's highly-rated afternoon show on Fox News is called The Real Story and she often ends her program by telling it like it is in a segment called "My Take."
Thursday she addressed the recent story over students in a Colorado school district who walked out of class and protested the school board's modifications to the AP History curriculum to ensure it includes positive reinforcement for "citizenship, patriotism, essentials and benefits of the free-market system, respect for authority and respect for individual rights.”
Apparently, students (and many of the teachers) find the idea of "citizenship, patriotism, essentials and benefits of the free-market system, respect for authority and respect for individual rights” so offensive they couldn't possibly bring themselves to adhere to such subversive ideas.
Carlson passionately spoke out against the students and put the issue into proper perspective:
"The last time I checked, we were still living in the United States of America, where we have a national anthem and an American flag. Are they the next things to be controversial and talked about being thrown out? How could being patriotic or learning about patriotism be a negative? And what does it say about our young people in this country, and the teachers joining the protest, that promoting patriotism is now a negative. Ironically, the new curriculum being proposed is all about promoting individual rights like protesting. The new curriculum would also teach a free-market system like the one we already have. It would also encourage that there be no disregard for the law. Isn’t that why we have laws on the books? Or have we come to the point where breaking the law is now an admirable choice? Don’t get me wrong, I’m all for freedom of speech and the ability to gather and state your claim. But, quite frankly, if you don’t like it here, and you have a problem with promoting the basic freedoms that men and women have died for — protesting for the rest of us and protecting us — then get out.

It is rather curious how these students engaged in a mass protest. Children that age are not totally ignorant but also not so totally organized. My guess is this was arranged by members of the faculty who misrepresented what the changes really were about. The parents at that school ought look into whether or not their children are being manipulated.

ZitatThe youth protest in the state's second-largest school district follows a sick-out from teachers that shut down two high schools in the politically and economically diverse area that has become a key political battleground.
Student participants said their demonstration was organized by word of mouth and social media. Many waved American flags and carried signs, including messages that read "There is nothing more patriotic than protest."
ZitatA parent told KUSA-TV that a walkout had already been planned for Friday morning. This walkout was over a proposal by the Jefferson County School district (JeffCo) to form a committee of nine people who would assure that Advanced Placement US History would be taught in the proper way.
The board has expressed a concern that the course is too negative or “un-American“. Conservative JeffCo board member Julie Williams said the board would follow these guidelines: “Materials should not encourage or condone civil disorder, social strife or disregard of the law. Instructional materials should present positive aspects of the United States and its heritage.” This language was removed from the proposal on Thursday, and a new proposal will be considered in two weeks.
Whether the teachers were directly involved in organizing the student protest is unknown, but it's clear the students are following the teacher's lead.
