So I ask you: is this yet another example (as if we needed it) of America's lack of compassion, xenophobia, and nativism?
"Amid fears of a global Ebola epidemic, the feds are keeping a close eye on passengers arriving at JFK and other international airports in the United States to quarantine anyone showing signs of the deadly virus.
And the city’s Health Department alerted doctors and other health providers to immediately report anyone they suspect might have the disease.
“Quarantine officers” at JFK and 19 other US airports are on alert, and airline personnel are trained to spot the symptoms, which include fever, red eyes, severe vomiting, diarrhea and internal bleeding, said a spokesman for the Centers for Disease Control.
“If you’re a passenger on a plane and you say you’re sick, you will be met when you land by the CDC,” spokesman David Daigle told The Post.
He added that if Ebola is suspected, the patient will be quarantined and rushed to a hospital."
Quote: truthkeeper wrote in post #3So if a whole bunch of people croak, you think they'll close the border?
I know...stupid question.
Now you know they won't close the border. That would be both politically incorrect and interfere with the free movement of goods and labor that benefit global corporate.
What's interesting and potentially scary about this outbreak, assuming the reports I have read are accurate, is that it is not following the usual pattern: an outbreak in a a rural area that is self limiting because it burns itself out quickly. This outbreak seems to have originated in city areas, and does not seem to burn itself out.
It is also being speculated that it may be mosquito borne. Outbreaks coincide with the rainy season. In the past it was speculated that bats are a reservoir for the ebola virus.
