Mitch McConnell reacted to Harry Reid's impending retirement.
The Senate majority leader had kind words for his Democratic counterpart, who announced Friday he would be retiring in 2016.
"Nothing has ever come easily to this son of Searchlight. Underestimated often, his distinctive grit and determined focus nevertheless saw him through many challenges," McConnell said in a statement. "They continue to make him a formidable opponent today."
The Kentucky Republican took over the Senate leadership from Reid, a Nevada Democrat, when Republicans won the majority in 2014 midterm elections. Though they have often butted heads politically, they are known to respect one another and be friends outside of Capitol Hill.
"Through every turn in his long career, Landra would be there by his side — and Harry by hers. In a short time, they will soon have the opportunity to write yet another chapter in their story together. Until then, I look forward to Senator Reid joining us in the many opportunities we'll have to accomplish important things for the American people here in the Senate," McConnell said.

I know these congenial words rub my Front Porch friends the wrong way but I don't see anything wrong in his kind words. It's politically wise to be congenial when possible. True, we live in the polarized day of enemies we can't stand. The day of traitorous succumbing to the opposition has left us unwilling to tolerate the niceties of cordial interaction.
But save the powder for the days it is needed folks. Kicking a man on his way out is Obama-like. Bush this and Bush that and the economy I inherited, the invasion Bush started caused ISIS and blah blah blah. Obama is a no-class back stabber. Do we need to be like him?

I understand where you're coming from, and if we were still in the days of Reagan vs. Tip O'Neill I might agree.
But it isn't just politics anymore - there's a country at stake.
And scum like Reid are working with the destroyer-in-chief to make it something unrecognizable.
And for Turtle McConnell to be his "friend" makes him scum, too.
Hillary's 2016 campaign slogan: Elect Clinton in '16 - believe it or not, there's STILL some of the country that hasn't been "fundamentally changed".
He didn't earn this praise. Recall just some of the despicable comments he has made over the years? "Distinctive grit and determined focus"...give me a break. And as for being friends with the guy, talk about low standards.
I would have liked McConnell to just have kept his mouth shut. Don't say anything bad...mouth, just shut it.
