Monica Lewinsky’s ‘Vanity Fair’ article reluctantly plunges us straight back into the frothing world of ‘90s gossip. It may be painful but it answers so many questions about today’s media.
The Monica Lewinsky confessional in Vanity Fair brings back a torrent of unfond memories of the appalling cast of tabloid gargoyles who drove the scandal. Remember them? Treacherous thatched-roof-haired drag-queen Linda Tripp, with those dress-for-success shoulder pads? Cackling, fact-lacking hack Lucianne Goldberg, mealy-mouthed Pharisee Kenneth Starr—the whole buzzing swarm of legal, congressional and gossip industry flesh flies, feasting on the entrails. And, of course, hitting “send” on each new revelation that no one else would publish, the solitary, perfectly named Matt Drudge, operating in pallid obsession out of his sock-like apartment in Miami.
A once-in-a-lifetime cast! Or so we all thought. But what we didn’t know at the time is that they were not some passing cultural excrescence. They were the face of the future. The things that shocked us then—the illicitly taped conversations, the wholesale violations of elementary privacy, the globally broadcast sexual embarrassments, all the low-life disseminated malice—is now the communications industry as it operates every minute of every day. Hey, Tina, you forgot a couple of players in the game.
Why did you fail to include Bill Clinton who revealed himself as indifferent to the dignity of his office, indifferent to the feelings of his wife, a liar, and a sexual predator? Might I remind you that according to your feminist ideology the disparity of power between him and Monica is prima facie evidence of sexual harassment (and reveals its practitioner as a male pig)?
Then there's said wife, Hillary. Doesn't bother you she was revealed to be a door mat for a philandering husband and instead of aiming her ire at him attacked the woman in the piece? How true to feminist principles is that?
Then, of course, there is the always Democrat and Clinton servile American press, the very group you pillory, though for the wrong reason. Tina, who broke the story of Bill's dalliances with Monica? Your "Daily Beast", the NYT, or some obscure internet news gatherer "perfectly named" Matt Drudge? Actually the MSM, including the likes of you, did all it could to suppress the story and thus enable a serial philanderer, a male chauvinist pig, and a perjurer. That's a record you can definitely be proud of.
We were asked for ID to get into a national park but it is racist to ask for voter ID?~~Comment on FB
Right, in truly Leftist blind fashion Ms Brown does exactly what she accuses the cast of characters who sought justice of doing. Monica's story once again reminds us of how subservient the press has become to the Dem's agenda, able to justify BC's behavior and cast off every "feminist" principle they had supposedly stood for. What was railed about as an "unequal power" in others in the corporate world, became a consensual sexual relationship for the most powerful man in the world and his unpaid 22 yo "partner"...
The press then and now provided cover for a serial pig!
