ZitatTrump campaign denies plagiarism in Melania's speech, blames reaction on Clinton
I will skip the opening paragraphs of this report and go straight to the core of it all.
ZitatOn Monday night Trump’s wife gave a rare speech — which was well received — but the conversation shifted away from that after it was discovered that there was an entire section that was almost word-for-word the same as Obama’s in 2008.
While not verbatim, the similarity in the statements look higher than being 93% different.
Here's the excerpt from Obama in 2008:
"And Barack and I were raised with so many of the same values: that you work hard for what you want in life; that your word is your bond and you do what you say you're going to do; that you treat people with dignity and respect, even if you don't know them, and even if you don't agree with them.
"And Barack and I set out to build lives guided by these values, and to pass them on to the next generation. Because we want our children — and all children in this nation — to know that the only limit to the height of your achievements is the reach of your dreams and your willingness to work for them."
And here's the passage from Trump's remarks Monday night that came under scrutiny:
“From a young age, my parents impressed on me the values that you work hard for what you want in life, that your word is your bond and you do what you say and keep your promise, that you treat people with respect.
They taught and showed me values and morals in their daily lives. That is a lesson that I continue to pass along to our son. And we need to pass those lessons on to the many generations to follow. Because we want our children in this nation to know that the only limit to your achievements is the strength of your dreams and your willingness to work for them.”
The Twitter hashtag #FamousMelaniaTrumpQuotes began trending on Twitter with people attributing famous quotes from people in history and movies to Trump's wife.
Even if the words are similar, one major difference between the two is that Melania means it.
I don't know if there is more to it than that. At this link there is a video which shows the two speeches side by side. https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/video/mel...ocid=spartanntp and, yeah, their similar. Personally I think it's a tempest in a teapot but I do question how this happened and note the Left is pretending moral outrage over "plagiarism" and using it to poke fun at the Trump campaign. But, then, no matter what the Trump campaign does, the Left and MSM are going to blow it all out of proportion.
This second report is from Katie Pavlich at Townhall.
ZitatCleveland, OH - The Trump campaign has issued a statement to CNN surrounding the controversy over Melania Trump's plagiarized RNC convention speech last night in Cleveland: Nobody is getting fired.
Donald Trump and his children are reportedly furious with the campaign team, particularly head honcho Paul Manafort, over the incident. Melania is also reportedly enraged.
Quote: Cincinnatus wrote in post #1[quote] . . . the Left and MSM are going to blow it all out of proportion.
Of course they're going to do that.
But I wish we'd quit giving them ammunition.
(DISCLAIMER: I piled on Joe Biden back in '88 when it came to light that he plagiarized a speech by British Labor Leader Neil Kinnock. So I have to be consistent and say this was stupid, as well. But one possible difference here vs. Biden: it probably went no further up than a staff member who prepared the speech. I doubt that Trump or the missus was involved in the plagiarism.)
Here's a piece from American Thinker which gives a better perspective on this "plagiarism scandal". Use it whenever you run across some Leftist ditz who has his panties all in a wad over the horror of it all.
Excerpt:
ZitatMichelle in 2008:
And Barack and I were raised with so many of the same values: that you work hard for what you want in life; that your word is your bond and you do what you say you're going to do; that you treat people with dignity and respect, even if you don't know them, and even if you don't agree with them.
Rob Marsh in 1992 [in book he wrote]:
... is based upon the application of certain basic truths: that integrity is all important, that your word is your bond, that if you owe a person money you pay him back, that you work hard, enjoy what you do and show a loyalty to those with whom you work and do business. He instilled in me simple, clear cut values and a will to succeed.
Do the political swells so concerned with this “scandal” really think that anyone’s vote would be swayed by whether Melania voiced the same bromides as Michelle?
Update: Yeah, plagiarism is a very serious thing in speeches:
This is followed by a side by side video of silver tongued devil (literally) ripping off phrases from a speech by Deval Patrick given a year and a half earlier.
Appears to have been a mistake by a campaign staff writer. Looks like an honest mistake - the issue I see remaining is that Melania admired Moochelle What in the world was she drinking at the time?!?! LOL
Other than that its a nothing burger IMO. Dishonest media grasping at straws because they've got nuthin'.
