A Polish news website is reporting Russian troop maneuvers of up to 3,500 men in Kaliningrad, which is a Russian enclave located between Poland and Lithuania, on the Baltic Sea.
According to the translated website, "Unannounced maneuvers are taking place on land skirting both Poland and Lithuanian territory. The movements are comprised of T-72 tanks and infantry BMP-2 combat vehicles. The Soldiers involved are said to be practicing defensive and offensive operations, while improving fortifications."
Alarm about the maneuvers are even now being voiced by Lithuanian officials.
President Dalia Grybauskaite said that "the country is prepared for each variant of events and surprises from Russia". She added that in connection with the exercises in Kaliningrad "Lithuanian armed forces remain in increased combat readiness."
Meanwhile, Russian fighter jets violated airspace today in Ukraine on the Black Sea - according to News TVN 24, of Ukraine.
In order to prevent provocations, an Ukrainian Su-27 was scrambled to intercept Russian aircraft. The Ministry of Defence of Ukraine reported that the airspace was violated twice.
As a result, the US is sending F-15 and F-16 fighter jets to both Poland and Lithuania.
