This story cracks me up. Don't we sorta expect cheerleaders to look like this? Apparently at ever so PC UW acknowledging this fact is simply not acceptable to certain unnamed members of the community.
ZitatThe University of Washington posted an infographic filled with advice for any woman interested in trying out for their cheerleading squad. After an outcry from students on campus, however, they deleted it. But, as things on the internet are wont to do, the graphic lives on thanks to screenshots.
Let’s break down some of the Do’s:
Sport a bronzed, beachy glow Wear “girl about town” lipstick (if anyone knows what color this is, inquiring minds would love to learn) Be physically fit, with an athletic physique Wear a solid black sports bra and a pair of mid-rise black shorts Lace up your jazz shoes Make sure your hair is voluminous and only partially hides your face
And some of the Dont’s: Have visible tattoos Wear trendy colors Wear makeup that involves nude lips, smoky eyes, or “harsh lines,” Wear a pair of high-waisted shorts or a shirt that covers your midriff Wear your hair slick-backed or in a ponytail
Here’s what the university had to say about it, per The Seattle Times:
In a statement, Husky athletics officials said they created the graphic “in response to a high volume of student questions about cheer and dance team tryouts.”
It was removed after the department “determined that some of the details and descriptions provided were inconsistent with the values of the UW spirit program and department of athletics.”
