This week, in the Utah nominating caucus, I will vote for Senator Ted Cruz.
Today, there is a contest between Trumpism and Republicanism. Through the calculated statements of its leader, Trumpism has become associated with racism, misogyny, bigotry, xenophobia, vulgarity and, most recently, threats and violence. I am repulsed by each and every one of these.
The only path that remains to nominate a Republican rather than Mr. Trump is to have an open convention. At this stage, the only way we can reach an open convention is for Senator Cruz to be successful in as many of the remaining nominating elections as possible.
I like Governor John Kasich. I have campaigned with him. He has a solid record as governor. I would have voted for him in Ohio. But a vote for Governor Kasich in future contests makes it extremely likely that Trumpism would prevail.
I will vote for Senator Cruz and I encourage others to do so as well, so that we can have an open convention and nominate a Republican.
I am curious, after this endorsement can - and will - Ted Cruz continue to use the "outsider" and "anti-establishment" labels for his campaign? In addition to Lindsay Graham, who also endorsed him today, it is hard to find greater examples of the Washington "cabal" he rails against than these two.
This is not a rhetorical question. I really do want to know his strategy.
FWIW, I have been picking up lots of "constitutionalist" language this week - also "conservative" vs. "populist" - so I that may be the new meme.
His "strategy"? His strategy is to win. Don't believe me? Ask Ben Carson's Iowa supporters. Ask Marco Rubio. Cruz needs something like 87% of the remaining delegates [assuming the Convention is on the up and up, which is increasingly, IMO, doubtful]. He'll take it any way he can get it, including help from the cabal he's battened off during his short Senate career.

Or, a much lesser number + some of the now uncommitted delegates.
The people are voting a candidate into the White House who is being opposed by both parties. What???
There's Donald Trump and the anti-Trump. That's it.
The Uniparty establishments are scrambling to find a place to put their money so as to avoid a Donald Trump victory.
Yes Truthkeeper Ted Cruz has willingly taken the establishment mantle and down deep he realizes he's temporarily getting their backing. He's being endorsed now as the Donald Trump alternative, NOT as himself, Ted Cruz.
IF the voters don't give Trump the needed 1237 delegates, it's a brokered convention and Ted Cruz has done his job, see ya Ted. That's it. They aren't over their anger at his filibuster or his disrespectful freshman audacity. Nope.
