Very impressive, Algernonpj, but my very first thought was wouldn't it be nice if we were to devote such creativity and materials to dealing with childhood cancer, world hunger, clean water, and the like. No, folks, I am not a wimp or a Liberal, but I sometimes despair over how clever we humans can be when destroying one another instead of practicing the virtues of the Good Samaritan.

It seems to me that because of the dark side of human nature, there's always someone who rather take wealth from others than create / earn their own.
Ironically without the resources and creativity spent on defense there likely would be nothing to spend on other pursuits.
For some reason I'm reminded of a quote attributed to Golda Meier: ' in time we will forgive the arabs for killing our children but we will never forgive them for making us kill theirs.'
