"United States women's national team goalkeeper Hope Solo will again face domestic violence charges after a Washington state appeals court reversed the January dismissal of a case against her.
Solo, who was named the top goalkeeper at the Women's World Cup this past summer, faced two counts of domestic violence after a June 2014 incident in which she was accused of striking her half-sister and then-17-year-old nephew.
The case was dismissed on procedural grounds in January, but a document filed Friday to the state court's website confirmed the reversal of that decision, as reported by ESPN. A timetable for a new trial has not been announced.
"The court reverses the decision of the lower court and remands the case to Kirkland (Wash.) Municipal Court," the appeals court said in documents made available to public on Friday.
Solo's attorney has said she acted in self defense after her nephew -- who stood at 6-foot-9 and 280 pounds -- hit her with a broomstick. The police report at the time said Solo "appeared intoxicated and upset," and an article from ESPN earlier this year said she also was abusive to police who responded to the scene."
Momentous occasion: I disagree with Sanguine on something. First time I've known her to be wrong.
ZitatYes, I think that if she were named was Susie Smith, her 15 minutes would have long been up.
Hope is an outstanding athlete and well known to the public in her particular sport.
"Hope Amelia Stevens[1] (born July 30, 1981), commonly known by her maiden name, Hope Solo, is an American soccer goalkeeper, a two-time Olympic gold medalist and a World Cup gold medalist. She has been goalkeeping for the United States women's national soccer team since 2000. After playing at the collegiate level for the University of Washington, she played professionally for the Philadelphia Charge in the Women's United Soccer Association (WUSA). When the WUSA folded after her first season, she traveled to Europe to play for the top division leagues in Sweden and France. From 2009 to 2011, she played in the Women's Professional Soccer (WPS) for Saint Louis Athletica, Atlanta Beat and magicJack. After the WPS ceased operations in early 2012, she played for the Seattle Sounders in the W-League. She currently plays for Seattle Reign FC in the National Women's Soccer League, the top division of women's soccer in the United States.
Solo is regarded as one of the top female goalkeepers in the world..."
Plus, from a guy's pov, and this is VERY important, she's rather easy on the eyes.
