Former Bay State congressman Barney Frank had harsh words for Joe Biden yesterday, saying the vice president isn’t suited for the Oval Office and should stay out of the 2016 White House sweepstakes.
“There’s something about him that doesn’t look presidential,” Frank told the Herald when asked if the veep should jump in the race. “It would be a mistake for him to do that.”
Frank’s comments come as a top Biden backer was reportedly overheard this week saying, “I am 100 percent that Joe is in.”
Frank also blasted Vermont U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders, saying the self-described socialist doesn’t have a chance at the Democratic presidential nod.
“He’s not going to be the nominee. Most Democrats will realize that,” Frank said. “Having been a socialist would make it impossible to win the presidential election.”
Hillary Clinton, according to Frank, can still walk away with the nomination, especially if she can separate herself from the lingering email scandal.
“If six months from now no emails surface, the issue fades” and she “will win the Democratic race,” he said.
And if Donald Trump becomes the Republican nominee, the former secretary of state will waltz into the White House, Frank said.
“The Democrats win big if Trump wins the GOP,” he said. “He’s incoherent, abusive.”
Frank said the 16-person GOP race is too tough to call because the “public doesn’t get serious for a while.” But early on he was leaning toward Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker.
Frank said Trump has “intimidated” his GOP rivals, and his surging “popularity” leaves the Republicans ripe for defeat.
The Newton Democrat also knocked Jeb Bush and Carly Fiorina for missing opportunities at Wednesday night’s CNN debate to hit back at Trump.
Instead of taking up CNN moderator Jake Tapper on his request to respond to Trump’s “look at that face” comment, Frank said Fiorina should have asked for advice from the bizarrely coiffed real estate mogul on “how to fix her hair.”
As for Bush, whose Mexican-born wife was insulted by Trump, Frank said the former Florida governor should have challenged Trump to bring his wife to the debate— any of the three he’s been married to.
