Whhat did I tell you a couple of weeks ago? In fact, what have I been suggesting for months? Hillary is going to have a very tough time winning her party’s nomination. Since we have been appraising her looming presence on the campaign trail a growing list of scandals have been revealed. They have surprised even me, though, truth to tell, any seasoned Clinton watcher has seen their precursors reaching all the way back to her Arkansas days. Lying, secreting evidence from investigators, funny money (and lots of it), campaign contributions from shady characters (some foreign, some felons), and being asleep at the switch during Benghazi. I suppose her Benghazi contretemps was an evolutionary breakthrough for Hillary, but then she had never been secretary of state before.
Now she is confronting the real tests. Since Hillary’s latest scandals have been reported her polling figures have dropped precipitously. According to a recent CNN/ORC poll, 57 percent of those queried do not trust her. That is an increase from 49 percent just two months ago. Only 47 percent say she cares about them, down from 53 percent in March. Fifty percent say she does not inspire confidence, an increase from 42 percent in March. More voters have an unfavorable view of her now than at any time since 2001. That was when the Clintons were in the headlines for stealing White House property and granting dubious pardons. Her campaign is but 8 months old. She says that she has spent the time getting acquainted with ordinary Americans. The evidence is that she should avoid contact with them. The more they get to know her, the less they like and trust her.
Now the straw polls begin. Earlier in the month, Bernie Sanders, he being the candidate from the Occupiers’ Movement, came surprisingly close to beating Hillary in a straw poll of Democratic Party leaders in Wisconsin. Even without the help of street demonstrations and public lewdness, he snagged 41 percent of the vote to Hillary’s 49 percent. As I noted last month, Bernie is the Gene McCarthy of 2016. A combination of Bernie’s attacks on her and the drip-drip of revelations about the Clintons’ scandal-plagued past will leave Hillary bloodied and discombobulated as she approaches the New Hampshire primary. Whether Bernie loses to her in New Hampshire as McCarthy lost to President Lyndon Johnson in 1968 or he wins—a not implausible outcome—by the New Hampshire primary the Democratic Party will come alive with likely challengers to the Republicans. Either former New York mayor Michael Bloomberg or Governor Jerry Brown could give the Republicans a tough race, and there may be more Democratic aspirants by then: good old Joe Biden and the multi-faced secretary of state John Kerry. Surely the Democratic Party can do better than to field a presidential nominee who trails behind her a 25-year record of scandal. Trust me, the Democratic Party is coming alive.

From my conversations with Democrats and with media types, I sense their unease with Hillary. They would rather not talk about her problems. They acknowledge them but rush on to cite the multiplicity of candidates in the Republican field. My answer to them is that a multiplicity of good candidates is better than the Democrats’ scarcity of candidates. They know I am right, and in the weeks ahead their unease will grow.
"While Clinton does better with female Democrats—47 percent to Sanders's 28 percent—she's actually losing men to the Vermont senator. Within a relatively small sample of likely male Democratic voters in New Hampshire, Sanders wins 75, or 35 percent, while Clinton wins 69, or 32 percent. "
So it turns out Hillary is doing quite poorly with men. As Gomer Pyle used to say, "Shazaam!" There's this great line was in the article...
"It’s long been a joke that Hillary Clinton reminds men of their ex-wives."
Quote: Cincinnatus wrote in post #2I agree with R. Emmett but go one step further. Hillary will not run. She will withdraw after the NH primary, perhaps even sooner.
My moneys on Kerry.
There's precedent for that. Kerry became the default candidate in 2004 when Dean self immolated in Iowa. I can see a repeat for ol' mashed potato face.
========================================================================================== By the way, I'm growing rather weary of the cheap comparisons of Obama with Neville Chamberlain. The British Prime Minister got the biggest issue of the day wrong. But no one ever doubted that he loved his country. That's why, after his eviction from Downing Street, Churchill kept him on in his ministry as Lord President of the Council, and indeed made Chamberlain part of the five-man war cabinet and had him chair it during his frequent absences.
When he [Chamberlain} died of cancer in October 1940, Churchill wept over his coffin.
So please don't insult Neville Chamberlain by comparing him to Obama. -- Mark Steyn"
