What an embarrassment for his Highness. He personally went to the hill to lobby for the bill but was rebuffed. Oh, goodie.
The headline is misleading on two counts. It wasn't the trade bill itself which was rejected but an accompanying measure which supposedly dealt with worker's "rights".
"The House overwhelmingly rejected the first in a series of trade bills Friday, with Democrats voting against a program that aids displaced workers — in large part because, under the chamber's procedures, its defeat meant the vote on the so-called "fast track" bill that followed was only symbolic, so the measure couldn't be sent to Obama's desk."
The second reason it is misleading is that the Dems are getting all the credit for derailing the bill but the vote was 302-126 and the Dems only have 188 seats in the House and 40 of those voted with the Prez. So the defeat was bipartisan but the Dems are getting all the credit. That might make sense on a certain level as the members of his own Party voted against the Prez's wishes but it is still not true.
Anyway it's good news and Obama looks like the idiot he is just now.
"This is the most lavishly funded and entirely moronic foreign ministry on the planet."~~Mark Steyn's description of the US State Dept.
"Only 40 Democrats backed TAA while 144 voted against it. On the GOP side, 158 Republicans voted “no” while 86 Republicans voted “yes,” according to The Hill."
I wonder what will be offered to the 144 Dems to switch their votes. They are totally beholden to the unions so what do they want?
Glad to say my own guy voted "no" though he stated in April he favored fast track. Must have been my email message to him not to approve the TAA package which changed his mind, don'tchathink?
Obama’s greatest ally on trade was Paul Ryan By Kelsey Snell June 12, 2015
President Barack Obama won an unusual ally in his fight for fast-track trade authority — his 2012 campaign trail rival: Paul Ryan.
With other House GOP leaders, Ryan delivered more than double the votes Democrats could muster for the most consequential of Friday’s votes on wide-ranging trade authority. Republicans were 86 of the 126 yes votes for Trade Adjustment Assistance. That bill ultimately failed, 301-126, and in the end, Democrats could only muster 40 votes.
Prominent Democrats like House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) opposed TAA, but House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio), Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) and Ryan himself supported it.
