Older people do not decline mentally with age, it just takes them longer to recall facts because they have more information in their brains, scientists believe.
Much like a computer struggles as the hard drive gets full up, so to do humans take longer to access information, it has been suggested.
Researchers say this slowing down it is not the same as cognitive decline.
“The human brain works slower in old age,” said Dr. Michael Ramscar, “but only because we have stored more information over time
“The brains of older people do not get weak. On the contrary, they simply know more.”

This would explain the results of an experiment done by a retailer in England.
In an attempt to cut the costs of high turnover in staff, one branch only hired older workers. The results showed that the older workers took longer to learn the job plus spent more time with customers completing a transaction. However older workers brought a lifetime of experience and knowledge plus a better work ethic to the job. They learned more about stock and inventory, had many more repeat customers, took less time off, and had a much lower turn over rate.
In other words the slowness that was initially perceived as a determent actually made them a better more productive worker.

I recently acquired a smart phone and [now I feel stupid] I do think my brain is approaching my saturation point.

You need to off load some of your knowledge to long term storage or perhaps and external hard drive LOL
I have an external hard drive. It's called "wife".
She remembers word for word every conversation, every act, every disagreement we have ever had. Since she only brings up such matters when she wants to get her way, or to win an argument, I sometimes think she makes it up as she goes along; but since I have completely forgotten whatever I said to her the afternoon of our third anniversary, or on Groundhog Day 2009, or ever, I have to accept her version of events.

Classic.
