ALT TECH RISES: Gab Received More Traffic Than NBC, TMZ, Breitbart, and Huffington Post in January Gab's underdog success story continues to escalate to new heights in 2021 by GABRIEL KEANE February 8, 2021
Free speech social media platform Gab received 272 million visits during the month of January, outperforming legacy media competition such as NBC News, The Wall Street Journal, Breitbart, and TMZ by a wide margin. Gab’s success is particularly remarkable, considering the fact that the website has been “deplatformed” from mobile app stores, PayPal, and email marketing services.
The official Gab Twitter account revealed that the website had far outperformed legacy media on Monday, posting “Gab: ~272 million in Jan” next to a screenshot of traffic numbers from various corporate legacy media outlets.
A total of 272 million visits would put Gab ahead of the New York Post (257 million), the Huffington Post (205 million), the Wall Streeet Journal (165 million), Breitbart (160 million), and The Daily Beast (109 million), among others.
National File was the first national media publication to begin tracking the precipitous rise of Gab in 2020, when most establishment media figures still believed that failed social media platform Parler would be the free speech refuge of the future.
As National File reported in January 2021, Gab began receiving “thousands” of resumes from employees at Silicon Valley Big Tech corporations:
Zitathe official Gab Twitter account first reported over the weekend that the company was receiving requests for employment from large numbers of employees in the tech industry:
“Silicon Valley should see our inbox right now. Looks like half of their employees want to leave and come work for Gab. Panic in SV!”
Gab further elaborated on the news in a follow-up tweet: “We are getting resumes from senior level employees at Big Tech companies. Hearing that many people are putting in their two weeks too. Internal civil war among staff and executives. Panic in Silicon Valley. The house of cards falls. The exodus has begun.”
Most recently, Gab revealed on Monday that the numbers of people seeking to leave their jobs in Big Tech and find employment at Gab had swelled into the thousands, stating “I think half of Silicon Valley just reached out looking for a job, I’m not joking. It’s thousands of people. Panic in the Valley! We will be hiring American citizens Will get back to folks as soon as we are able to.”
Gab’s success comes despite the efforts of establishment figures such as Jared Kushner to stymie the platform’s rise by refusing to allow President Donald Trump to create an account.
