ZitatCommissioners unanimously approved a motion Tuesday rejecting Gov. Jay Inslee’s stay-at-home order.
Commissioner Clint Didier proposed the motion one day after Franklin County Sheriff Jim Raymond issued a letter saying he would not enforce the stay-at-home order against churches and small businesses that reopen responsibly amid the coronavirus pandemic.
“I move that Franklin County end recognition of the governor’s stay at home emergency proclamation that is now deemed unconstitutional. We support the reopening for all builders and small businesses that want to work,” Didier said during a meeting Tuesday morning.
The motion was seconded by Commissioner Brad Peck.
The Board of Commissioners cited RCW 43.06.220(4), which says an order from the governor may not continue for longer than 30 days unless an extension is approved by the state Senate and House of Representatives.

While commissioners do not have the authority to “reopen” the county, Didier said the motion is meant to proclaim that Inslee’s current stay-at-home order is no longer valid. Along with Sheriff Raymond, Didier indicated that the order is an overstep of authority that infringes on constitutional rights.
Franklin County is not exactly my "home", but it is just on the other side of the Columbia River from me, and I have made common cause with many of its residents over the years.
Some of you may remember Clint Didier. For years he was an outstanding pro football player (Washington Redskins) and he has been a major player in Conservative politics in this area. He owns a farm in Franklin County and recently got elected to its Board of County Commissioners.
Meanwhile in my county, Benton, our sheriff has announced he, "will not be enforcing the stay-at-home order and that he thinks civil liberties are being infringed upon.", which includes religious gatherings and businesses reopening. Our county commissioners have issued a statement they support Inslee, but that may result from some local political animosities too tedious to discuss.
ZitatIn a Thursday afternoon press conference Gov. Inslee specifically mentioned Franklin County, the Snohomish County Sheriff and others whom he said issued statements not consistent with the Stay at Home orders, or chose to defy them.
In what has been easily his most 'dictatorial' conference to date, Inslee said in not so subtle ways that Stay at Home is the law, and insinuated anyone who disagrees with it by trying to open businesses or deviate will not be tolerated. He did try to temper it by saying only one enforcement action has had to be taken, but he was clearly saying he was making the decisions and will not be swayed from HIS course.
Inslee said the "courts" and others have deemed his orders "Constitutional," and he praised the "millions" of Washington residents who have abided by the Stay Home orders.
Inslee officially let it out of the bag that if necessary the Attorney General's office and the Washington State Patrol would be used to enforce the Stay at Home laws if a business deemed as non-essential chooses to stay open or re-open.
He said every decision he has made is to protect the health of Washintonians
He also claimed the plan is working and said the state will remain under the Stay Home order until "we make a further decision that will be based upon science and data."
He also took a definite shot at dissenters, saying, "our office will not be guided by irrational sources who would gamble with our health.
