ZitatAngry Republican members of Congress stormed the impeachment inquiry Wednesday and disrupted the planned hearing in an extraordinary protest over the closed-door hearings.
Two dozen right-wing lawmakers entered the hearing room even though the legislators are not members of the three bipartisan committees conducting the probe into President Trump’s alleged abuse of power.
“We’re going to try to go in there and we’re going to try to figure out what’s going on on behalf of the millions of Americans that we represent,” said Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.), a member of the House Judiciary Committee who despite his statement has been present at all the hearings so far.
By lunchtime, a half dozen GOP lawmakers were holding an impromptu sit-in in the secure conference room and refused to leave.

Rep. Mo Brooks (R-Ala.) said Republicans want the hearings held in open session so Americans can judge for themselves what Trump is accused of doing.
"Public proceedings where the American people can see for themselves first-hand the railroad job being presided over by (House Speaker) Nancy Pelosi and (Intelligence Committee) Chairman Adam Schiff,” Brooks said.

Oh, really?
ZitatRep. Matt Gaetz, R-Fla., an ardent supporter of President Trump, got the boot on Monday when he tried to sit in on the testimony of a former top National Security Council expert on Russia who was appearing on Capitol Hill as part of the House impeachment inquiry into the president.
Gaetz, who sits on the House Judiciary Committee, attempted to attend the testimony of Fiona Hill, a former deputy assistant to the president, but was told that because he was not a member of the House Intelligence Committee that he had to leave. The House Intelligence, Oversight and Foreign Affairs committees are conducting the impeachment inquiry into Trump.
