'One sided witch hunt': Trump defends 'legendary' Giuliani amid reports he's under investigation by John Gage October 12, 2019 02:52 PM
President Trump still has faith in Rudy Giuliani amid reports that the former New York City mayor is under investigation and despite speculation that the president might ditch him as his personal lawyer.
"So now they are after the legendary 'crime buster' and greatest Mayor in the history of NYC, Rudy Giuliani," Trump said Saturday on Twitter. "He may seem a little rough around the edges sometimes, but he is also a great guy and wonderful lawyer. Such a one sided Witch Hunt going on in USA. Deep State. Shameful!"

The New York Times reported Friday that federal prosecutors in Manhattan are investigating whether Giuliani violated lobbying laws in his work with Ukraine. Two Giuliani associates, who were helping him look into Hunter Biden's business dealings in Ukraine, were arrested Wednesday on campaign finance-related charges. The two men were caught as they tried "to board an international flight with one way tickets," according to U.S. Attorney Geoffrey Berman.
Giuliani denied he did anything wrong but admitted that he worked with the two men to try to find dirt on Hunter Biden.
The arrests follow an impeachment inquiry into President Trump regarding whether he tried to withhold military aid from Ukraine in exchange for an investigation into his potential 2020 opponent, former Vice President Joe Biden, and his son Hunter.
Media has speculated that Trump might dump Giuliani, as Republican advisers have been telling the president in private to get rid of him. On Friday, the president indicated that he was unsure if Giuliani still represented him. Giuliani, however, stated that he believes he remains Trump's lawyer.
