San Diego Port of Entry Shut Down as Migrants Rush Border Chanting ‘Yes We Can’ 25 Nov 2018
The San Ysidro port of entry, among the largest border crossings between San Diego and Tijuana, was shut down by U.S. Customs and Border Protection agents Sunday after hundreds of caravan migrants appeared to have attempted to breach a U.S.-Mexico border fence.
CBP officials closed traffic roads moving in both directors and pedestrian walkways at the port of entry. Tear gas is said to have been being fired at the migrants from inside the U.S.

Pueblo Sin Fronteras, the group organizing the caravan, told Fox News that migrants were preparing to breach the Southern California border crossing on Sunday.
Footage of migrants rushing the port of entry is making the rounds on social media.

More than 5,000 migrants have been camped in and around a sports complex in Tijuana after making their way through Mexico in recent weeks via caravan. Many hope to apply for asylum in the U.S., but agents at the San Ysidro entry point are processing fewer than 100 asylum petitions a day.
A second line of Mexican police carrying plastic riot shields stood guard outside a Mexican customs and immigration plaza, where the migrants were headed.
That line of police installed tall steel panels behind them outside the Chaparral crossing on the Mexican side of the border, which completely blocked incoming traffic lanes to Mexico.
Tijuana Mayor Juan Manuel Gastlum on Friday declared a humanitarian crisis in his border city of 1.6 million, which he says is struggling to accommodate the crush of migrants.
ZitatMexico will deport up to 500 migrants who attempted to storm the US border, according to its interior ministry.
The group were rounded up after trying to cross the border "violently" and "illegally" on Sunday, the ministry said in a statement.
Video footage shows dozens of people - including women and children - running towards the fence that separates the two countries near the city of Tijuana.
US border officers used tear gas to repel them.
Mexico's interior ministry said in a statement that a group of "nearly 500 migrants" had "tried to cross the border in a violent way".
Those identified as having taken part in these "violent events" would be deported immediately, it said.
ZitatSunday on CNN’s “Newsroom,” Rep. Maxine Waters (D-CA) called the ongoing border crisis a “political ploy” by President Donald Trump.
Water said, “Well, I am very saddened to see this situation with desperate people and all of this has being the political ploy of the president of the United States of America. He made this the central part of his platform, that he was going to do something about these migrants who were coming here. He called them killers and rapists, and he certainly did stoke a lot of fear about these migrants who are trying to get in, and so he promised the American people he was going to make Mexico pay for it all, that we would not have to pay a dime for it and now we have this chaos. That’s what he wants. He wants to stoke fear.”
She added, “These migrants who now are facing a closed border and who are rushing, you know, and storming the border certainly that looks bad and looks as if they are at fault of all of this. What we need is comprehensive immigration reform led by the president of the United States in an effort to deal with this problem. But we’re not seeing that from this president. He’s not interested in solving the immigration problem. He’s not interested in credible reform. This, what you see today is exactly what he wants to happen so that he can continue to build up a constituency, afraid of migrants talking about migrants who are dangerous and who are going to take over this country and so it’s unfortunate this is his kind of leadership, failed leadership, that’s what it is.”
Thousands of Additional Migrants Headed to U.S. Border 25 Nov 20183152
Thousands of additional migrants are expected to arrive Tijuana, Mexico, expecting to claim asylum at the U.S border. The migrants expected to arrive are in addition to the approximately 5,000 migrants who already arrived in this border city during recent days.
Jean Guerrero from KPBS first reported on the expected migrant arrivals after she spoke to a group who had just made their way to Tijuana, Baja California.

The new migrants appear to be from a group of 200 who, according to Frontera.Info, arrived at the border city after having been stranded for days in Mexicali. The Mexican news site reported that the group was primarily made up of young adult males. The migrants said they felt betrayed by their compatriots who had told them that they would be allowed to enter the U.S and request asylum.
The arrival of the new caravan comes just hours after a group of migrants tried to rush the U.S. border at the San Ysidro port of entry. As Breitbart News reported, the effort forced U.S. Customs and Border Protection to shut down the port of entry and establish barricades with federal officers in riot gear. U.S. Customs and Border Protection tweeted that Border Patrol agents were forced to fire tear gas into the crowds as some of the migrants threw rocks.
