House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) said he plans to introduce a bill this week that will include the full funding of President Trump’s proposed border wall.
"For decades, America's inability to secure our borders and stop illegal immigration has encouraged millions to undertake a dangerous journey to come here in violation of our laws and created a huge loophole to the legal channels to the immigration process where America welcomes immigrants to our country," McCarthy said in a statement to Breitbart, a right-wing news site that first reported the news.
The bill McCarthy is sponsoring, also known as the "Build the Wall, Enforce the Law Act," would reportedly dedicate over $23 billion to building the security measure.
Though Trump has sought $25 billion in funding for his long-proposed wall, a massive funding bill passed by Congress earlier this year only appropriated $1.6 billion for border security.
Last month, Trump lashed out at Congress over the lack of funding for his border wall in a sweeping $854 billion spending bill, which included funding for departments of Defense, Health and Human Services, Labor and Education.
"I want to know, where is the money for Border Security and the WALL in this ridiculous Spending Bill, and where will it come from after the Midterms?" Trump asked in a tweet at the time.
"Dems are obstructing Law Enforcement and Border Security. REPUBLICANS MUST FINALLY GET TOUGH!" he added.
In an exclusive interview with Hill.TV in September, Trump hinted that he intends take an executive action on immigration in the coming weeks, though he did not specify what it might be.
McCarthy's office did not immediately respond to a request for comment from The Hill.
