House Intelligence Committee Chairman Devin Nunes warned there will be "hell to pay" on Wednesday morning if the Justice Department doesn't start turning over documents.
During an interview on "Sunday Morning Futures With Maria Bartiromo," the California Republican said the documents he has demanded for months, pertaining to alleged Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act abuses and the Russia investigation, need to start coming in Monday.
"If documents do not begin to be turned over tomorrow, and a clear way and path for everything else is not clear here in the next couple of days, there's going to be hell to pay by Wednesday morning," he emphasized. Nunes didn't explain what exactly would happen Wednesday, but his colleague, House Oversight Committee Chairman Trey Gowdy, said in a separate Fox News interview Sunday that House Speaker Paul Ryan “made it very clear” the House will use “its full arsenal of constitutional weapons to gain compliance” on outstanding subpoenas.
Nunes said "our staffs" will meet Monday in what would be the next step forward, following a second classified briefing last week for the "Gang of Eight" congressional leaders, but noted he has a "low" level of confidence that the DOJ and the FBI would be cooperative.
Last week, a letter sent to Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein that was signed by all 13 GOP members of the intelligence panel said that anything short of the DOJ permitting all members of the committee and "designated staff," which goes well beyond just the Gang of Eight, falls short of the request and therefore is "an obstruction of the Committee's efforts to investigate the Russia matter, including an alleged confidential FBI informant sniffing out suspicious ties to the Russians who spoke with members of President Trump's 2016 campaign. Asked Sunday if contempt of Congress was possible, Nunes said that was one option. He also said the House was getting "close" to impeachment of top DOJ officials.
The chairman also repeated his accusation that it looks like federal officials are "trying to run out the clock" to the end of this session of Congress.

Trey Gowdy Threatens DOJ, FBI Officials Over Clinton Probe Documents
The House oversight chairman is demanding documents related to Hillary Clinton, Andrew McCabe and the alleged surveillance of the Trump campaign.
House oversight committee Chairman Trey Gowdy (R-S.C.) threatened on Sunday to hold top FBI and Justice Department officials in contempt of Congress if they fail to comply with lawmakers’ subpoenas for sensitive documents.
Earlier this year, lawmakers subpoenaed troves of documents from the two agencies related to the FBI’s investigation into Hillary Clinton’s email server, the firing of former FBI official Andrew McCabe, and alleged surveillance of the Trump campaign during the 2016 election.
Republicans have accused the DOJ and FBI of intentionally blocking their investigation. The agencies claim that the requested documents require time-intensive review before they can be released.
Gowdy, House Speaker Paul Ryan (R-Wis.), House Intelligence Committee Chairman Devin Nunes (R-Calif.), and House Judiciary Committee Chairman Bob Goodlatte (R-Va.) met on Friday with FBI and DOJ officials and “went item by item” through the outstanding subpoenas, Gowdy told Chris Wallace on “Fox News Sunday.”
“And Paul [Ryan] made it very clear: There’s going to be action on the floor of the House this week if the FBI and DOJ do not comply with our subpoena request,” Gowdy said. The House will use “its full arsenal of constitutional weapons to gain compliance,” he continued.
“Including contempt of Congress?” Wallace asked.
“Um, that would be among them, yes sir.” Gowdy answered. “I don’t want the drama. I want the documents.”
