As soon as I heard the news my heart sank. I just assumed the Republicans had caved. Doesn't sound like it, though, not yet anyway, and the basic DACA problem has merely been postponed.
ZitatSenate Democrats bowed to pressure to reopen the government Monday, joining Republicans in backing an immigration and spending compromise that was quickly denounced by liberals and immigration activists.
Roughly 60 hours after the federal government first shut down, a bipartisan group of negotiators in the Senate prevailed with leadership, trading Democratic support for reopening the government for a commitment by Republicans to hold a vote resolving the status of young undocumented immigrants by mid-February.
The Senate voted 81-18 to end a filibuster of a spending bill that would fund the government through Feb. 8 and reauthorize the Children's Health Insurance Program for six years. The upper chamber was expected to pass the measure Monday afternoon, then send it to the House for quick approval.
The government can reopen once President Trump signs the funding into law.

Democrats Cave on ‘Schumer Shutdown,’ Agree to Three-Week Spending Bill Senate Democrats caved on the “Schumer Shutdown,” on Monday and agreed to a three-week spending bill that will fund the government until February 8.
Shortly before the cloture vote, Sen. Joe Manchin (D-WV) told reporters that after leaving the Democratic meeting, the three-week Continuing Resolution (CR) might even get 70 votes.
In the end, the Senate approved the motion to invoke cloture and end debate, 81-18, featuring overwhelming bipartisan support.
The Dems recognized the public perception that this shutdown was the result of their intransigence over protecting illegal's interests over American's interests, and decided to cut bait and go home. I hope the GOP makes this a campaign issue this year.
