Even though the debate in this thread was minor compared to some of the knock-down-drag-outs I have witnessed in my time on message boards, I want to congratulate all who participated.
This is the way debate should be conducted.
The issue was discussed in a an adult manner without straying too far off the premise. And there were no emotional ad hominem personal attacks.
