A Justice Department official admitted that former IRS official Lois Lerner’s apparently missing emails actually exist on a backup server, but the government doesn’t plan to retrieve them.
“A Department of Justice attorney told a Judicial Watch attorney on Friday that it turns out the federal government backs up all computer records in case something terrible happens in Washington and there’s a catastrophe, so the government can continue operating,” Judicial Watch president Tom Fitton told Fox News’ Shannon Bream.
“But it would be too hard to go get lois lerner’s emails from that backup system,” Fitton continued, paraphrasing the DOJ official. “So, everything we’ve been hearing about scratched hard drives, about missing emails of Lois Lerner, other IRS officials, other officials in the Obama administration, it’s all been a pack of malarkey. They could get these records, but they don’t want to.”
Fitton said his group plans to ask a federal judge to order the IRS to hand over the emails, which conservative opponents of Lerner want to see in order to determine if there is a link between President Obama’s team and the IRS’s targeting of Tea Party groups.
“If this backup system is working, Lois Lerner’s emails are there,” Fitton said.
"but the government doesn’t plan to retrieve them."
I don't get it. Hasn't Judge Sullivan already ordered the IRS to deliver the emails or fess up as to why they can't? Seems to me the Obama people have to comply or face contempt or obstruction of justices charges. Am I missing something?
202 years ago this week, First Lady Dolly Madison saved the famous portrait of George Washington from the White House during the War of 1812. If it happened today, Obama would probably save his golf clubs!~~FB comment
I think they are guessing the GOP under current Leadership will just roll over and not pursue the matter--I would given what they have been doing--It might backfire but I am guessing they think it is worth it
The GOP leadership may just "just roll over and not pursue the matter" but Judicial Watch certainly won't and, based on his past performance, neither will Judge Sullivan.
