Suicide bomber strikes New York City at rush hour By Larry Celona, Daniel Prendergast and Natalie Musumeci December 11, 2017 | 7:44am | Updated
An ISIS-inspired suicide bomber set off a homemade explosive device at the Port Authority Bus Terminal subway station Monday morning, law enforcement sources said.
The man — a 27-year-old who lived in Brooklyn and is possibly of Bangladeshi origin — had wires attached to him and a 5-inch metal pipe bomb and battery pack strapped to his midsection as he walked through the Manhattan transit hub, sources said.
The man partially detonated the device, which he was carrying under the right side of his jacket, prematurely inside the passageway to the A, C and E trains at Eighth Avenue and West 42nd Street around 7:40 a.m., sources said.
Former NYPD Commissioner Bill Bratton told MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” that the man was inspired by ISIS and possibly born in Bangladesh.
Bratton, who said the man had been living in the US for seven years, “was supposedly setting the device off in the name of ISIS.”
“So, definitely a terrorist attack, definitely intended,” Bratton said.
The man, who suffered the most serious injuries, was taken to Bellevue Hospital.
Two others suffered minor injuries, police said.
Investigators briefly spoke to the alleged bomber, who told them he made the explosive device at the electrical company where he works.
Emergency personnel flooded the scene following the incident.
Mayor Bill de Blasio has been briefed on the incident.
The incident sent commuters into a frenzy.
“holy f–k. just was stuck in a running stampede at port authority bus terminal due to bomb scare. cops EVERYWHERE,” designer Chelsea LaSalle tweeted.
LaSalle followed up her tweet with another that read: “not a scare. actual explosion moments before i was about to get on the subway.”
Commuter Keith Woodfin tweeted: “I was exiting the Port Authority and the National Guard was running towards something shouting ‘Go, Go, Go.’”
An anti-terrorism cop at the scene said the suspect “could have killed a lot of people.”
All MTA trains were bypassing Port Authority-42nd Street as police investigated the incident.
All New Jersey Transit buses were not stopping at Port Authority.
Port Authority Blast Suspect Is From Bangladesh, Lived In Brooklyn December 11, 2017 at 9:51 am
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) – A suspect carrying a crudely-assembled improvised bomb is in custody following a blast in the underground walkway between Times Square and the Port Authority Bus Terminal Monday morning.
The blast happened at around 7:20 a.m. during Monday morning rush hour.
Three other people suffered minor injuries that are not considered life-threatening. The other three transported themselves to area hospitals with symptoms like ringing in the ears, officials said.
The suspect has been identified as Akayed Ullah, 27, who was wearing an improvised explosive device, Police Commissioner James O’Neill said.
Ullah is from Bangladesh and had been living in Brooklyn. He was injured when the device apparently went off prematurely and was rushed to Bellevue Hospital with non life-threatening injuries. He suffered burns to his hands and other lacerations.
Anyone with any information about Ullah is asked to call authorities at 1-888-NYC-SAFE.
The device was affixed to his body with velcro and zipties, according to O’Neill.
A second device was found on the suspect, police said.
Port Authority Police Officer Jack Collins held the suspect at gunpoint assisted by officers Sean Gallagher and Anthony Manfredi.
The crudely-made device had wires protruding from it.
A federal law enforcement official says the device malfunctioned — it did not fully detonate, according to the official.
Authorities are investigating the attack as a possible “lone wolf” based on the rudimentary construction of the device.

Interesting comments for as long stay they stay up:
Zitat Close the mosque he was attending and deport his entire family and ban them from ever returning.
Hoist by his own petard. Somewhere Shakespeare is laughing in his grave.
I’m sure Akayed Ullah was worshiping in a Synagogue on Friday evening and St. Patrick’s Cathedral of Sunday morning and they both directed him to bomb the subway. Because nobody from the religion of peace would ever do something like that.

Thank God or more people may have been injured. When are we going to figure out Muslim immigrants contain a pool of fanatics who will kill for Allah, and we need to more properly vet them or ban them altogether?
