"Independence Day celebrations were marred by multiple shootings in Chicago that reportedly left at least seven dead and 50 injured.
The first fatal shooting occurred around 2:30 a.m. Friday, kicking off a violent weekend for the city.
Corey Hudson, 34, was killed after a car pulled up and someone inside shot him and a friend on the street. According to ABC News station WLS-TV in Chicago there were also three police-involved shootings on July 4th alone. At least one suspect involved in one of those shootings was killed.
The most recent shooting occurred around midnight on Saturday, according to WLS-TV, when 19-year-old Kezon Lamb was shot in his car. Lamb was able to drive away from the initial scene and was found just two blocks from Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel's home.
They city has been actively combating gang and shooting violence in recent years after a bloody year in 2012, when it was the only city in the nation to record more than 500 homicides."
"CHICAGO, (UPI) - Over 60 people were victims of gun violence in Chicago over Fourth of July weekend, leaving 11 dead and police under heavy scrutiny. The Chicago Police Department was directly involved in at least six of the shooting incidents, killing two people officials say were armed."
The people who run Chicago and the state of IL are the very ones responsible for this carnage and for the fact both the city and the state are headed toward bankruptcy. Pension chaos hits Chicago, Illinois budgets . Yet they presume in their infinite wisdom to tell the rest of us how we may live. It would be funny if it weren't so serious.
