ZitatA Connecticut mechanic may soon be looking for a new job after he allegedly crashed a millionaire’s $600,000 Ferrari Enzo while taking it for a drive on Monday.
Police say the mechanic was driving the red Ferrari when it started to fishtail on an entrance ramp and then struck the bridge wall, spun across three lanes of traffic before eventually smashing into the center divider, WHDH-TV reports.
The rare super car — of which only 400 currently exist — reportedly sustained heavy damage. Luckily, the driver and an unidentified passenger were not seriously injured.
The high-end dealership where the mechanic is employed, Miller Motorcars, refused to comment on the accident. It’s unclear if he’s been fired.
WHDH-TV identified the owner of the car as Michael Fux, a multi-millionaire restaurant owner who first made his fortune in the mattress industry.
The Asbury Park Press has more on Fux’s inspiring story if you’re interested:
Fux and his family immigrated in 1958 to the United States from Cuba. He was 15 years old and the family was poor, according to a 2013 story about Fux in Bed Times, the business journal for sleep products.
“My parents, my brother and I lived in a one-bedroom apartment in a seven-story walkup in Newark,” Fux said in the story. “We had Salvation Army furniture. I had one pair of shoes.”
Determined to help change his circumstances, within a year, Fux launched his first business, parlaying an obsession with cars and a knack for scrounging around into a tire and battery store, according to the story.
In 1996, using the knowledge he had gained at BioClinic, a producer of polyurethane foam egg crate mattresses for the hospital sector, he founded Sleep Innovations and began producing visco-elastic foam toppers, mattresses and pillows, according to the story.
