*** LIVE WIRE *** ‘Catastrophic Flooding is Now Underway,’ Says Weather Service by Bob Price and Lana Shadwick 27 Aug 2017
HOUSTON, Texas — Texans are facing what may become the worst flooding event in the state’s history as Tropical Storm Harvey continues to dump record levels of rainfall on the central and upper Gulf Coast region. Houston emergency management officials have run out of boats and other rescue equipment used to respond to people trapped in their flooded homes. Houston 911 officials are adding additional staff to handle the overwhelming number of calls being received.
UPDATES BELOW: All times are Central Daylight Time
UPDATE 3:20 p.m.: National Weather Service officials now predict record setting rainfall totals in excess of 50 inches in “Harvey’s” wake. “The breadth and intensity of this rainfall are beyond anything experienced before. Catastrofic flooding is now underway and expected to continue for days.”
Harvey The Hurricane Hawk' Hunkers Down With Cabbie During Storm HuffPost Nina Golgowski,HuffPost 2 hours 2 minutes ago
A hawk became an unlikely sidekick to a Texas cab driver after seeking refuge inside the man’s vehicle and apparently refusing to leave.
Houston driver William Bruso said he was stocking up on supplies on Friday ahead of Hurricane Harvey when he returned to find the bird sitting on his passenger seat.
“He looks like he’s scared. He doesn’t know what’s going on,” Bruso narrates in one of 10 YouTube videos documenting the bird’s surprise visit. “He just kind of hopped on in and doesn’t want to leave. I’m not sure what to make of it.”
Bruso said he tried to shoo the hawk away, to no avail. Videos later showed the animal perched on the door of his parked car, still refusing to fly away. Bruso eventually took the bird inside and gave it chicken hearts to snack on.
It didn’t take long for the feathered refugee to earn the name “Harvey the Hurricane Hawk” from Bruso ― as well as a flock of concerned and curious fans.
Harvey stayed in Bruso’s home overnight, but a worker with the Texas Wildlife Rehab Coalition was seen scooping the bird up on Saturday and taking it to a shelter for professional care.
“He’s been free to go, any time now, but they’re going to take him,” Bruso said as a woman with TWRC retrieved Harvey. “He may need to be rehabilitated so everyone knows he’s in good hands.”
Bruso did not immediately reply to HuffPost’s request for updates on Harvey’s condition. TWRC confirmed the bird’s rescue and said it would follow up with additional information later on Sunday.
I don't mean to seem insensitive, but I lived in Houston for 10 years and heavy rainfall with flooded streets was not all that uncommon. I even went through a tropical storm while there which shut down the city. Now this particular storm was undoubtedly unusual but I am wondering if the MSM isn't hyping it for dramatic effect or, even worse, are laying the groundwork for criticism of President Trump and his handling of the recovery (a la Bush and Katrina). Of course I'm not there anymore and have little idea of the real situation, but my cynicism has grown over the years.
In theory this storm was predicted to make landfall as cat 1 but shortly before landfall hit cat 4 and slowed down. That being said I get your point. I'm certain Harvey is already being blamed on Trump and his pulling out of the Paris Accord.
I just found this. No doubt this will be turned inside out and upside down to make Trump look bad ,,,,,,,,
Trump says will head to Texas when not 'disruptive' AFP August 27, 2017
Washington (AFP) - US President Donald Trump on Sunday praised ongoing rescue efforts in storm-hit Texas, where floodwaters were rapidly rising in the Houston area, and said he would not visit the disaster zone until authorities on the ground were ready.
Trump, who was spending the weekend at the Camp David presidential retreat, was to discuss the situation with his cabinet via teleconference.
"I will be going to Texas as soon as that trip can be made without causing disruption. The focus must be life and safety," Trump said in a series of tweets about the devastation wrought by monster storm Harvey.
"Many people are now saying that this is the worst storm/hurricane they have ever seen. Good news is that we have great talent on the ground." ......................................................... https://www.yahoo.com/news/trump-says-he...-152727551.html
