TGP Exclusive: An Interview With Political Legend Roger Stone Joshua Caplan Jul 19th, 2017 12:47 pm 8 Comments
When it comes to high stakes D.C. politics, Roger Stone is a force of nature. From his role as a trusted advisor to presidents Richard Nixon and Donald Trump, Stone’s illustrious career as a beltway insider spans decades.
Since helping Trump win an unprecedented election against ‘sure shot’ establishment candidate Hillary Clinton, the veteran Republican Strategist made headlines last week after the abrupt cancellation of his highly anticipated testimony before the House Intelligence Committee investigating Russian interference in the 2016 election.
Stone has been eager to tell his side of the story for months. In a March 2017 letter to the press, The New York Times bestselling author and subject of the Netflix smash hit “Get me Roger Stone” shot down MSM reports that he colluded with Russian hackers during the 2016 election – stating “I am anxious to rebut allegations that I had any improper or nefarious contact with any agent of the Russia State based on facts, not misleading and salacious headlines.”
Roger Stone’s story has been the same since day one; there are no ties to Russia
David vs. Goliath
When he’s not co-hosting the nationally syndicated Alex Jones Show, giving speeches across the country, or advocating for the legalization of medical marijuana, Roger Stone has taken up a truly American fight for civil liberties between a Nevada cattle rancher and the Bureau of Land Management (BLM).
In a case widely ignored by the corporate media, the BLM hit rancher Cliven Bundy with a $1 million penalty in a 20 year legal dispute over grazing his cattle on public lands without a permit – land the Bundy family had used for grazing since the 50’s. When Bundy refused to comply out of his belief that the federal government was overstepping their authority, the a fine led to a court order, which led to a now infamous 2014 standoff at the Bundy ranch in which BLM agents used dogs and stun guns against Bundy family members.
In February 2016, Cliven Bundy and his sons Ammon and Ryan were detained in Portland, Oregon after the senior Bundy traveled there in support of a similar dispute over government ownership of a Wildlife Refuge. Since their arrest, the Bundys and the other defendants have been held in Federal prison awaiting trial over the 2014 standoff, where they face up to 100 years in prison.
After a jury deadlock in April, a retrial of four lesser defendants began on Monday – with a second retrial for “tier one” defendants – Cliven, Ammon and Ryan Bundy scheduled to start 30 days after the verdict is reached for the first four.
In this highly controversial case of individual rights vs. government overreach, Roger Stone has stood strong beside the Bundy family – offering heartfelt remarks in support of those facing trial.
They gathered at Rainbow Gardens to hear speeches from Las Vegas City Councilwoman Michele Fiore, members of the Bundy family and even Roger Stone, an on-and-off adviser for President Donald Trump.
A trial in the Bunkerville standoff case opens Monday at the Lloyd George U.S. Courthouse, but instead of trying a new set of defendants, prosecutors will begin their second attempt to convict four men accused of conspiring against the government with rancher Cliven Bundy.
The retrial comes after an April mistrial, when jurors deadlocked on 50 of the 60 counts against the first group of defendants in the three-part case. Prosecutors eventually plan to try 17 men on charges stemming from the April 2014 armed standoff between individual rights activists and Bureau of Land Management agents, who came to Bunkerville to seize Bundy’s cattle from public land over unpaid grazing fees.
The overarching theme at Saturday event: The “mainstream media” hasn’t given the Bundy family a voice.
When it came to Stone’s turn to speak, he did not hold back.
Stone closed the evening Saturday by accusing the FBI and the Bureau of Land Management of “threatening death, … slaughtering livestock and laughing in our face about it.”
The crowd whistled and offered a standing ovation to welcome him to the podium.
“I am here for one important reason. I stand in solidarity with every member of the Bundy family,” Stone said. The crowd responded by chanting, “Roger! Roger! Roger!”
“I have not followed this case with the intensity that I might have,” Stone said. Still, he noted, “The more I read, the angrier I got.”
Over time, he said, Americans’ constitutional rights have been eroded to the point of being unrecognizable. “This is the oppressive and of a military jackbooted government that has lost all sense of law or morality.”
What makes Stone’s support of the Bundy family even more notable is the fact that the defendants in the 2014 standoff are now pitted against the very administration Stone helped into the White House. Attorney General Jeff Sessions drew criticism from the former Trump advisor when he said that “leadership requires, a lot of times, our people to step up and be accountable.” After claiming he would remain impartial, Sessions proceeded to compliment the U.S. attorney prosecuting the Bundy Ranch case – calling him a “top guy leading the battle, going to court, standing up and defending the office and the principles of the law.”
Defending the American Dream
In an exclusive interview with The Gateway Pundit, Roger Stone eloquently laid why this case is dear to him and what he believes must be done to bring about justice.
Josh Caplan: Roger, you have been one of the Bundy family’s most high profile and vocal supporters. With so many causes one can support today, what is it about the Bunkerville standoff that prompted you to devote so much of your time to the case?
Roger Stone: Ironically it is the government’s conduct since the standoff that attracted my attention. The judge in the case, Gloria Navarro – a handpicked protégée of former Senator Harry Reid, has denied the Bundys and their supporters due process in their prosecution. 17 supporters of the Bundys and 1 journalist have been held without pre trial release for over 18 months, while there are defendants currently under indictment for first degree murder in this same jurisdiction who are out on pre trial release.
Further, the judge has made off limits any examination of the conduct by the BLM or the Federal Government from before, during or after the confrontation at Bunkerville. Despite the heavy handed and one sided tactics of both the prosecution and the judge, the first trial of the defendants ended in a mistrial because no majority of the jury could be found. The Clarke County Sheriffs Office specifically assured the Bundy family that the BLM and the FBI had to stand down, and the dispute over past due payments from the Bundys to the BLM would be negotiated peacefully. Within an hour, however, FBI snipers were stationed within range of the Bundy family – including men women and children, and a government assault much in the tradition of Waco ensued.
Our founding fathers specifically wrote that land use was to be determined by the States and not the Federal Government, and the Federalist papers make this crystal clear. It is not incidental that the Bundy family ranching permit was the last active permit to do on so-called Federal land in Clarke County. The BLM has successfully taken control of 80% of the land in the State of Nevada. Our founding fathers were hesitant for the Federal Government to have a standing army. How is it that the BLM has a private army of Jack booted thugs prepared to point weapons at American citizens? Furthermore, the actions of James Comey’s FBI are equally corrupt in this entire incident and could fill an entire separate article.
Josh Caplan: In your closing remarks to supporters of the Bundy family and other defendants, you said the FBI and BLM threatened to slaughter livestock. This type of governmental overreach and bureaucratic arrogance is in part what President Trump was elected to reign in. What message did you relay to the President about this case, and did you receive a response?
Roger Stone: I know President Trump to be a just and decent man. I know President Trump to be a great man who is committed to justice. I know President Trump to be a supporter of the US Constitution who is both fair and compassionate. I know President Trump is on beholden to any special interest or any branch of Government whose only loyalty is the American people. I appealed to President Trump in the name of Justice and Mercy to review the facts of the Cliven Bundy case and to issue pardons to members of the Bundy family and their supporters.
The retrial in the Bundy case is expected to last 7 to 9 weeks.
