Wow! Powerful stuff, boys and girls. This brief summation captures just some of the flavor of this righteous man but to really appreciate his words I HIGHLY recommend you watch the video of his talk which is linked.
Tea Party-Backed Sen. Ted Cruz often cites the impact his father, Cuban immigrant Rafael Cruz, had on his current status as a conservative icon. The elder Cruz, who serves as a pastor in Texas, remains an outspoken advocate for traditional values and, during a recent speech in Foxboro, Mass., presented the case for mixing faith and politics.
He addressed members and guests of the Massachusetts Republican Assembly 4th Chapter, concluding that the “Bible talks a lot about politics,” going on to explain how God’s Word can direct voters.
As a matter of fact, did you know that the Bible tells you exactly who to vote for?” he asked. “Very, very clearly the Bible tells you who to vote for. Let me prove it to you.”
Cruz cited an Old Testament passage in which Jethro discussed choosing the right leader with his son-in-law, Moses.
God spoke through Jethro, he explained, and “gives four qualifications: able men, such as fear God, men of truth, hating covetousness.”
Expounding on those concepts, Cruz concluded that the guideline is still relevant in today’s political culture.
“For example, you defend the sanctity of life,” he suggested. “But beyond the moral code, that means you live a life of integrity, honesty, hard work, individual responsibility, the rule of law, and yes, free enterprise and limited government.”
He noted that Old and New Testament scripture “has a lot to say about all those.”
Criticizing the lies that have too often defined political discourse, Cruz said it is incumbent on each voter to research the claims being made by any politician or candidate.
“Whether it’s Lois Lerner, or it’s Rahm Emanuel, or it’s our illustrious attorney general, or it’s our president,” he said, “they go from lie to lie to lie to lie.”
Christ informed his followers that they can know a man “by his fruits,” Cruz explained, suggesting that it “won’t do any good to listen to a politician that tells you, ‘Oh yes, I’m pro-life’ and they’ve voted for abortion 17 times.”
Even issues such as states’ rights are addressed in the Bible, he suggested, noting that a hierarchy of leaders was instituted under Moses.
Those levels of leadership, he noted, was the “equivalent of federal government, state government, county government, local government.”
While the most pressing matters were presented to Moses, Cruz explained that “everything else you handle yourself, in other words at the local level.”
