Yeah, I dunno. I really like some of the shots (the early teaser shot of the special forces troops executing a HALO jump through a thundercloud was spectacular), but we just saw this.
A lot of people got excited about Pacific Rim -- finally, a big-budget, well-directed movie about giant monsters fighting each other.
And... what we realized is that it really wasn't budget or directorial skill which was holding the Giant Monsters Fighting Each Other genre back.
It's more foundational.
This movie looks okay. I'll definitely see it on PPV or whatever.
I'm worried about how very serious it all seems.
I just don't know how serious you can go with silly movies like this. I have nothing against silly movies, mind you. Some of my best friends are silly movies.
I just don't know if they can fight their own basic nature and be all serious and dramatic.
I owe someone an h/t. I forget who though.
Oh, I also forget: The dialogue in the teaser paraphrases Blue Oyster Cult's "Godzilla."
History shows again and again
How nature points up the folly of men
Okay it's not direct, but it's ballpark. They're definitely thinking about the song.
Okay... Some Nerdz are telling me this isn't actually Rodan, who is a good-guy monster, sort of a giant bat Apollo Creed to Godzilla's Rocky.
They say this is... oh man... This "Muto," which is also a giant bat monster, but I guess a mutant bat monster.
I guess he's "Muto" because he's a mutant.
Unlike Rodan, who's a 150 foot tall gargantuan bat creature who isn't a mutant.
Actually this site says they're... spider-like, although, I don't know, spiders usually don't have giant bat-wings. You usually find bat-wings on bats, but what do I know.
