Harry Reid goes on a nutty Koch brothers rant in 3… 2… 1…
Via NBC News:
Further loosening the reins on the role of money in politics, the U.S. Supreme Court today struck down restrictions on the grand total that any person can contribute to all federal candidates for office.
Today’s decision left intact the cap of $2,600 per election that a contributor to give to any single candidate for federal office, but it invalidated the separate limit on how much can be contributed to all federal candidates put together — $48,600.
The law was challenged by the Republican Party and an Alabama businessman, Shaun McCutcheon, who argued that the contribution ceilings were an unconstitutional restriction on his free expression.
“It’s about freedom of speech and your right to spend your money on as many candidates as you choose. It’s a basic freedom,” McCutcheon said in bringing the challenge.
"In a 5-4 decision in McCutcheon v. FEC, the justices ruled that individuals should be able to give the maximum per-candidate and per-party contributions to as many party committees, presidential and congressional candidates as they want. Under the current limits, individuals could give no more than $123,000 in total and $48,600 to candidates for the 2013-2014 election cycle." http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/post...ibution-limits/
Well this is settled law then.
"I was deeply disappointed, but it is what it is," McCain said shortly after the ruling was announced. "I predict again, there will be major scandals in campaign finance contributions that will cause reform." "There will be scandal," he repeated. "There's too much money washing around."
If you want true reform McA-hat stop the foreign bucks from influencing our elections. Those dollars are truly illegal and are in-flowing without any recourse so far. Ron Brown's body could tell this story well. http://www.eagleforum.org/psr/1998/june98/psrjune98.html
******************* "The best way to get a bad law repealed is to enforce it strictly." Abraham Lincoln
"Either the Republican party will reform itself or its going the way of the wind." Pat Caddell at CPAC
And, that is one of the several reasons I couldn't support McCain. (I did vote against his opponent, and for McCain's VP candidate). He flat-out does not understand or respect the principles enshrined in the Constitution, and therefore, does not understand or respect the Constitution. A person like that shouldn't ever be President. Hmmmm... wait a minute......
Worried About Big Money Donors ‘Stealing The Election’? Guess Where The Top Ten Donate To…
Contrary to what you’ll see in the media over and over this campaign cycle, the top ten donors gave much more money to liberal campaigns than to those on the right, up to this point in the 2014 midterm election. The Democrats have made it known very clearly that their campaign tactic will be to target the Koch Brothers in order to make themselves appear to be the plucky do-gooders facing overwhelming odds.
They’d especially like you to think the big evil corporate interests are overriding democracy with their money. These graphs gathered information from OpenSecrets.com paint a different picture altogether:
The top ten donors so far for the 2014 cycle include the city of New York, the Democrat Governor’s Association, and the National Education Association, and a handful of unions – all of which gave overwhelmingly to Democrat candidates, and towards liberal outside spending groups. [see calculations here]
If anyone should be whining and moaning about being at a disadvantage from big time donors, it’s conservatives. Here’s a graph of both kinds of contributions put together. Liberals carry an 18 to 1 advantage:
So next time you see a liberal whine about big corporate interests and their fat stacks of campaign contributions, send him this way.
