LYMAN, SC (WSPA) – Officials say a man with a concealed weapons permit stopped a shooting at a South Carolina nightclub last weekend.
Spartanburg County deputies say Jody Ray Thompson open fired into a crowd outside Playoffz Bar and Grill, hitting and injuring three people.
Thompson, 32, of Lyman, is charged with 4 counts of attempted murder, possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime, and unlawful carrying of a weapon, according to the Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies say Thompson got into an argument with another man at the club and he fired several rounds from his gun toward the crowd gathered out front.
His round struck three victims and almost struck a fourth victim, who in self-dense, pulled his own weapon and shot Thompson in the leg.
The man who shot Thompson has a valid concealed weapons permit and will not be facing charges, deputies say.
Those who were injured were taken to the hospital for treatment. Deputies say none of the victims’ injuries were life threatening.
