Ok, the story itself is of no consequence. Seems a reporter for the LA Times did a report on sexual abuse accusations at Occidental College and it turns out he had an "inappropriate" relationship with one of his sources. So the paper considered this a "conflict of interest" and canned the reporter.
What makes the story interesting is not that but this comment by LA Times editor Davan Maharaj.
The relationship, and the failure to disclose it, was “a professional lapse of the kind that no news organization can tolerate,” Mr. Maharaj said in the note. “Our credibility depends on our being a neutral, unbiased source of information — in appearance as well as in fact.”
Yeah, he actually said that, presumably with a straight face, and would you guys please stop laughing?
