WASHINGTON — Texas Republican Rep. Louie Gohmert accused House Republican leadership of not giving members of the party “enough voice.”
“If I can add to the question ‘do conservatives have enough voice with this speaker,’ I would humbly submit to you that this party does not have enough voice in this leadership,” Gohmert said Wednesday at an event with House conservatives.
“The thing to do would be to decentralize power … give the speaker one vote on the steering committee and no other appointments that get votes on the steering committee,” he said, “and perhaps look at electing the committee chairs instead of anointing them from on high.”
“There are a lot of things we can do to give more power to everybody that’s in congress, instead of just making this centralized, stovepipe dictatorship within the party,” he added. “That’s my two cents.”
