A major donor to the Clintons and their foundation could be Hillary Clinton’s version of the Trump University scandal but on a grander scale.

The story involves Laureate Education, a for-profit educational company that operates universities around the world including five campuses in the United States.

According to public disclosures, the educational company paid Bill Clinton $16.5 million to act as honorary chancellor between 2010 and 2015. Law professor Jonathan Turley reports that many more millions flowed from the State Department during her time as Secretary of State to groups run by Laureate Education owner Douglas Becker:

Various sites have reported that the State Department funneled $55 million in grants during Hillary Clinton’s tenure to groups associated with Laureate’s founder. That would seem a pretty major story but virtually no mainstream media outlet has reported it while running hundreds of stories on the Trump University scandal. The stories on the grants do not name Laureate directly.

Professor Turley reports that even before Laureate was paying Bill Clinton, the company was showing up in Hillary’s emails:

Indeed, Laureate has come up in the Clinton email scandal. In her first year as Secretary of State, Clinton is quoted as directly asking that Laureate be included in a high-profile policy dinner — just months before the lucrative contract was given to Bill Clinton. Hillary Clinton later references “Laureate Universities, started by Doug Becker who Bill likes a lot.”

The whole affair appears to be classic Clinton: lots of flash, lots of money being moved around, and not a lot of answers being given. Becker is believed to have donated between $1 million and $5 million to the Clintons during this time period.

However, as defenders of America’s social contract, we insist that the rules laid down by both parties at the outset of campaigns be respected, and that the results be decided by free elections. We will oppose any attempt to rig the system and deny voters of either party their constitutional right to elect candidates of their choice.
