CNN’s Dana Bash is reporting that the Senate passed the debt ceiling cloture vote (where Cruz held out for 60 votes) with a 67 vote supermajority. Bash also reported a ‘dramatic moment’ between Cornyn and McConnel who didn’t want to vote for it, but did anyway:
Republicans who didn’t want to vote yes, voted yes, including Mitch McConnell and John Cornyn. The top two Senate Republicans had a dramatic moment, when it looked unclear whether this was going to pass or not, [they] walked down to the front, raised their hands, ayed together, effectively taking the plunge knowing that they both have primary challenges back home, that this will be very very hard for them to explain back home. But they did it because they’re Republican leaders.

Of course, it’ll be said that it is all Cruz’s fault that they had to vote for it. I guess they chose solidarity over principle. But hey, 18 trillion is right aroudn the corner. Who cares if our children and their children have to pay it back.
